I could swear I saw a photography forum for autos on here at somepoint but all I can find right now is one for photoperiod photography. Could someone point me in the right direction or let me know that I hallucinated it? Was hoping to see what some other members were doing with their cameras & plants as well as share what I've been up to (see below)

Thanks!

Very nice! If there is not an auto photography forum here there should be. I am impressed by many of the photographs I see on AFN and would love to know more specifics on how folks shoot. Recently got some knew macro photography gear mainly for shooting cannabis though it will come in handy for other photography as well. I can use some tips and tricks.

Thanks Kels!! I've been into photography on & off for the past 18 years or so. I was fortunate enough to be asked by a local winery to do an exhibit of my landscape work at their tasting room back in the autumn of 2016 -it was a great experience!

What kind of info are you looking for, I'm sure I could offer some advice.

Have no experience with macro photography and don't shoot much indoors. For Christmas I got a 105mm macro lens and extension tubes for my Nikon D7500. Also a cheapish but functional tripod. Haven't opened the boxes yet to play around. I am sure lighting will be my biggest challenge as I only have on board flash unless I improvise . Plus, don't know where to start with fstop/iso/shutter speed settings and lighting for closeup shots. Mostly I shoot photos of my dogs/puppies outdoors in natural light so this indoor macro stuff is new for me.

Awesome! Congrats on the lens & tubes. I have a D750 I use for landscape/portraits but for macro, I’ve got an Olympus OMD EM1 with their 60mm (120mm in 35mm equivilance) & extension tubes.

(I have to apologize, I’m having a hard time putting down good recommendations -hope this helps a bit, though)

One of the big challenges in macro is depth of field & yes, I think you’ll have a challenge with lighting, too but nothing you can’t work around! And your pop up flash may help more than you’d think... I would recommend setting up on the tripod & working with the lens first before adding the extension tubes. With the tubes, you’ll have to get VERY close to focus which will probably render the flash ineffective. I’d probaly start shooting at f/5.6 -it will allow a good amount of light in & the depth of field will be reasonable on your 7500. You should get plenty of light at that aperture. Work your way up from there -if your on the tripod, you won’t have to worry too much about camera shake. Speaking of which, set your 2-second delay when your on the tripod, too.

I bet you can get some good shots handheld with the pop up flash.

Try manual focusing when in the tripod, especially with the extension tubes.

Higher ISO settings may help.

My girlfriend is coming over because she’s interested in shooting close up -I’m sure I’ll have better organized tips after we’re done & I’ll post them here a bit later.

Love macro photography..my fav. I do my best with the equipment I have. Nothing fancy..I have extension tubes, rails, ring lights.etc..just finding time is what stops me. Just getting into photo stacking...

Thanks for the tips @kdubs. I will give your suggestions a try as soon as I am able to set aside a good block of time to play around. I am envious of your D750. One of these days I will upgrade my camera body. It's just not high on the priority list right now.
