Auto Seeds Auto Seeds 2025 Grow Show.

Weekly update, GDP and RUNTZ have just begun to flower, Permanent Marker has gotten a few more pistils since last time I updated the thread but still lagging behind.

Other than that they have been quite simple to grow, normal feedings at 1.0ec around 6.0ph , they are on 10hrs of light with a brief 2hr break then back to 10 on and 2 off again for a 24 hr cycle. Roughly 400ppfd at the canopy using the Photone app.
Here are a couple pics, nothing too exciting yet .

What does your light cycle do vs 20/4?

The main thing it does for me is help me keep my humidity down without too much intervention. After 4 hours of lights off it can get pretty humid in the space, I don’t have a dehumidifier in the space currently and by limiting the dark to only 2 hrs the RH stays a little lower. I would run 24hrs but I like to give them some dark.

Maybe I’m crazy but it seems to work ok for me, I don’t always run this schedule I have found that some cultivars are more sensitive to light and a little break seems to keep them a little happier. These in particular seemed to get pretty droopy after 24hrs of light, I switched to 18/6 and it was like I sprayed them with a hose , so I switched to this and they perked right up. Like I said I may be crazy but if it works why fuck with it, as I said not something I always do just when I want to give a little break and the RH in my place is high.

I’m in Canada and it’s starting to cool off here so I’ll probably just switch to 20/4 soon and see how they react now that the humidity is lower, ultimately I will be utilizing a dehumidifier in the coming weeks in the lung room and that should keep the humidity where it needs to be.

I think @Mañ'O'Green experimented with shorter light cycles than 24 hours. Maybe he'll chime in to remind us of his conclusions.
I have run some weird cycles previously just to fuck around, mostly to see how they would react when as I said the plants seemed to be stressed with 24 hrs. I have found with my current light most plants are happy with much less light, when the PPFD gets into the 500 range at canopy I usually start to see some drooping, a short break seems to solve the issue, of course I could also dim the lights but I think the short dark is more beneficial than less light.

That makes sense if something needs a chance to rest and reset.

So the way my mind works that makes me wonder about doing 5/1/5/1/5/1?

Could such radical cycles trigger hermies?

I’m sure in unstable genetics it could definitely happen. I have run lots of autos by different breeders and have yet to trigger an intersex expression in any of them.

Maybe I have been lucky but I think it’s a testament to the breeders.

I think the intersex is mainly triggered in Photo period plants when the dark cycle is interrupted(of course there are other triggers but i’m not screwing with any other inputs here), with autos this dark cycle is less of a factor and thus the plants are much less likely to have adverse effects from it. Now if the breeder is trying to bring a photoperiod plant into auto form the selections are very important and most intelligent breeders would eliminate any signs of intersex traits before even choosing to breed with that Photo plant.

I have tried all kinds of light schedules 4/4 6/4 (a real bitch to tend to) and fooked up plants 12/12 24/0 8/16 and 16/8 .

24/0 = fastest plants, high yield but the quality was subpar and the cost of energy inputs the highest per gram, 12/12 autos grown with Photoperiod plants Time to finish about the same as 16/8 with ok yield and quality ok Price per gram for power inputs average (hard to tell because the photos were big producers) 16/8 Slowest to finish with the best quality by far, price per gram for power inputs close to the estimated 12/12. 16/8 is the only schedule I use now.
