Hey everyone!

Just wanted to get a discussion going here about the comparison between photos grown at 12/12 from seed and our beloved autos. When I first saw people doing 12/12 from seed I was thoroughly inexperienced and let it wash over me without sinking in.

Upon revisiting, it's really got me thinking. To my untrained eye, pretty much all the photos of photos grown this way are indistinguishable from autos. Obviously the major difference is the rudy genes, and other general photo vs auto squabble, but aside from them, is there any other major advantage/disadvantage going one way or the other? From what I can see, most photos have just one main colastem (pole-style) but others do get the trademark auto satellite branches.

Essentially I'm just really really curious and wanted to bounce off some of you more experienced auto heads. I'm leaning towards there not being a ton of difference (aside from the obvious), but autos being "better" because they're specifically designed to be grown smaller.

What do you guys think? I'd be really eager to hear your opinions on this. Couldn't find it mentioned anywhere else.

I've done some google imaging, so you don't have to. sorry about the sizes, you can definitely find better comparisons.

What's the prognosis?

Love this topic... would like to see a 12/12 grow here at AFN...

But 12/12 vs. 18 0r 20hr autos.... Not 12/12 photo vs. 12/12 auto.

We all like to conserve power/lights burning out... so 30% less power and light hours burning is a factor, plus they need less nutes burning 12 hrs...

I have brought this same topic up a while back on here... I do run a 12/12 tent for a couple of photos (white widow, and n/s mill are in there now, the Russian dragon photo Pheno is out and is being flushed...) it so far seems to me about equal as far as growth, though just could
Be the strains but they don't look like they'll yield as much as the 18/6 autos....
Would love to hear others thoughts and opinions, experience in this as well... As I got a lot of freebie photo FEMs I will be growing out...

My tent is wrapped in thick insulation. I need the heat coming off the lamp to keep it barely warm enough. If I went to 12/12 the frost would get them. Thus autos are a forced choice for the winter.

...well, damn. They're pretty much identical. Thread names and all  I did three separate searches, '12/12', '12/12 "from seed"' and '12/12 from seed', and got nothing each time. Bugger. Sorry to be 'that guy', I really hate being that guy.

Still, it is an awesome topic. How long have you been doing that for Yoda? and yeah cres, that's the test I was thinking - full auto vs. semi photo, everything else identical. Might be on the cards for me in a month or two, I'm so curious to see the result.

Is your tent outside thud?

Thanks for the responses guys.

Is your tent outside thud?

Nope, it's in my basement, mostly underground. Stays nice and cool down there in the summer but gets too cold in the winter.

So really the best use for auto's is a stealth early outdoor plant.

Newbie here, and very interested. Honestly, this is the first I've heard of doing 12/12 photos, but it makes sense. Interesting that it works, though "how well", that is the question. So great topic and thanks for all who've contributed. You've got me wired on the topic now.

So I checked these other threads, too, and thanks for them.

From this I get that it can take the 12/12 photos longer than autos, and maybe with less regular results. And caution against doing 12/12 with autos.

I'm getting more of the same from this thread, though some photos do well with 12/12. Some recommend vegging photos a few weeks first before 12/12.

Some conjecture on different photo strains doing well with less light. Interesting.

This last one will take some work. Over 1000 pages!

Anyway, all good stuff. Wanna try it all!

Thud,

Let me tell you what works great and saves electricity. A comfort zone heater. You know, the ones that they sell at the as seen on tv stores? I use one in my op to keep the "kids" warm and it works excellent and doesn't cost much of anything for electricity. I use the small 1000 square feet version. Good luck to all of you! Great thread BTW.
