New Grower Bay Area Backyard Grow Take TWO :D

M'kay, still haven't made the dry ice hash, MamaBlue has MOLD in her cola (totally 100% my fault - got too humid in the dark room... hopefully she's the only one), the buds in cure are making me sad - as they dry even MORE fucking leaves are curling and stretching out. :finger:

I saw your post from the Senseis and also found in my own research that light intensity is KEY to tight buds. In my case, adding a bloom builder (or whatever they are called) would have helped a BUNCH - at least to increase the size/swelling of the actual flowers even if I can't help the leafiness I think. The FF trio is so commonly used that's what I went with, but OMG FF has other nutes toooo - with MUCH higher numbers... Anyway, my point is I think I'd try heavier nutes in the future (not full strength but maybe working up to it) - my growing friends told me to add MORE phosphorus, and now that I see numbers on the bloom boosters I see exactly what they are talking about - my flowers look severely underfed.

Good news tho - as you and Stick have mentioned, we're in great company with our first grows not exactly going as planned - it can ONLY get better, and I know we've both learned a LOT already. Fear not, we'll keep screwing up something each time :twist: but at least I know they improve!

Yeah, waira - that IS Honi and she's lookin pretty good! She's the "great white hope" at this point... Fan leaves are yellowing, gonna let her go a bit longer til the sugar leaves start to fade. Her cola looks better than any of the others, we'll see what happens. Meanwhile, Hazel has finally cracked and is yellowing all over - but Charlotte! I'm thinking she might be a plastic plant. SERIOUSLY. :joint: :roflcry:

OH - here's a pic of the root ball on the AK male - haven't pulled the stub & roots from the gals that flowered yet but I'll take a pic of those too - might be more rooty... I thought I really ought to post a pic for some feedback from people who know if I should be impressed or not... LOL I feel like I've been mistaken about so much right now...

I'm happy with the smartpots even tho the autos didn't do as well as I'd hoped - they had nothing to do with light intensity or extra nutes... LOL AND we're about to re-use some of them for peppers & cucumbers! :D

Time to get my day going - see you all later!
:smokebuds:

Hey you

:pass:

Congrats on making it to the finish line

Don't be down about the leafy buds, worst comes to worst you'll have a great collection of material to makes some tasty hash. Seems to me they have shown their rudi traits by doing that, wonder if it would have been different indoors....

Were your girls stinky bitches growing up.... I mean from a distance. As you know I've got that super silver outside and its not too bad atm but if it gets any worse I may have to come up with plan #3 and just wanted a bit of a heads up. It's already starting to worry me lol.

Shame I don't live state side, my afghani cross in the 32oz'ers has flopped out a big set of hairy balls, would have loved to have given him to you for a seed run to compensate for your leafier buds. I'm giving it another day and then it's going to be taken the fields out back and we're gonna have ourselves an Old Yeller moment. I really wanna do a seed run myself but not with the plants you've seen. They're just for smoking :toke:

Anyways babe, enjoy what you've worked so hard for. Nothing better then your own grown pot.

:slap:

:peace:

Hey there, RF! :D Glad to see you.

Thanks for the congrats - and the encouragement! The dry ice hash making has already begun with a bunch of trim... I do feel like indoor would have had better results, ya... May not have changed the amount of leafiness, but I believe larger buds would have filled out and covered some of them!

As it is (after trimming, drying and fine trimming,) what's left are immature flowers... :face: I could just die - CLASSIC rookie mistake! :joint: But I know better with photos - er, I learned the hard way - so did I harvest one or two and check them? LOL of course not. Anyway, lesson learned. They could have been better or not - no guarantee of that, but next time - well actually I still have a Sweet Tooth out there that I am letting go! Next time I'll let them all finish, tho...:help:

None of the autoflowers were overwhelmingly stinky from any distance. Up close it was very strong, but I never noticed the aroma until I was practically on top of them. Photos REEK though, as you probably know. If you're already concerned, either way I'd start thinking about plan #3 just in case! And congratulations on having a stinky bitch!! :roflcry:

It IS a shame I won't get pollen from the afghan cross!! Is there a way you can save it for when you're ready? I've seen people collect it in small glass vials... Oh no - was that your entry in the competition? I gotta get over and check that thread...

Thanks for the rep, RF! I will enjoy it, wish I could share! :smoke::buds:

So, whatever happened to the Sweet Tooth, Honi, or the other two autos that were put back outside?

Oohhhh, right, almost forgot about them! :twist: OK, I wanted to forget about them, but I keep seeing them in the yard.

Here's Honi, the Sweet Tooth. She was 9 days behind the others, which we've already determined I harvested before their prime, and I'm happy to say she is getting foxy! :brow: That's a term I learned the other day in Missisturd's thread - TALK about foxy, her ladies are off the chain!! *swoon*

6.19 honi.jpg6.18 honi foxy.jpg6.18 honi ljbns annotated.jpg6.18 honi side bud.jpg6.18 honi sugar.jpg

Her leaves look a little raggedy, but she is simply irresistible apparently, and her caretaker is a little lax with the spinosad treatment... She's fox tailing her little heart out!

M'kay, so Hazel & Charlotte were in the dark for 4 days, I confused them FO SHO by putting them back outside. Hazel is looking ROUGH, no hiding it! (you can tell I'm trying to prepare y'all :crack:) Charlotte looks, as I said, like a plastic plant. OK, she might be yellowing a little. At any rate, they had foxtails on top of them that hadn't opened yet when I pulled them inside, because I had "new grower anxiety syndrome." HAHAHA I didn't know what the hell those pod things were - even thought they might be seeds. So ya. Embarrassingly, these are the SAME pod things that are open and filling out the buds on Honi... :face::face::face::face: Might as well let it all hang out there - let's all learn from this! *snort* Or cringe, whatever you think. :spark:

Poor ol' Hazel:

Um, ya. I tried to show some of the trichomes on that last picture, but the way the leaves are growing out all covered in sugar is nice. See, I said something positive! ;)

Charlotte, potential queen of the comeback?? :eye:

6.18 char2.jpg6.18 char top close.jpg6.18 char side close.jpg6.18 char side bud.jpg

Check her OUT - If you squint really hard or hope beyond hope you might see a few new white hairs poking out of a lower pod or two... The other pics are little side buds that just look adorable, and check out how green her leaves still are!

So, there they are - the good, the bad, and the hopin' for a comeback...

I'm planning on feeding still with light blooming nutes, cal-mag, big bloom (micro-nutes) and molasses BECAUSE of seeing the white hairs. I won't worry about flushing til later, and they'll have weaker nutes until then.

What are your thoughts, my fellow growers? Care to guess Hazel's fate?? LMAO Admire Honi's new foxiness? Think I'm nuts for tormenting them? :roflcry: And the question on everyone's mind: What are Charlotte's chances at winning Comeback Queen? :pimp:

Hope you enjoyed the read, I really enjoyed telling the tale!

Lovely plants!

I have always benefited from the rule of thumb that says harvest the buds when most of the hairs are red.:check:

There is no law that says you have to chop the whole plant at once. It makes perfectly logical & simple sense to chop each bud when it's ready. At the very least, if there are lower-branch buds that are not finished when the main top ones are, then just chop the tops and let the lower buds take their time to finish.

It's only mid June in the SF Bay Area...your growing season doesn't end until late September, early October. There's still time to grow another batch of autos. You've got the lovely hot & sunny days of July & August to come, so your plant growth should do just as well as your Spring/Summer grow, if not better!

Thanks for the great pot-porn!

There's still life in the old gals yet, show 'em who's boss and give 'em hell :ama:

Just realised you got mold from an outdoor plant. I know very little about outdoor grows, all my research has been into indoors but I certainly didn't expect it to be as big of a problem out in the open. Great for me to know really as that outdoor box I have has very little ventilation (well, only as much as my indoor grow anyways, which isn't enough), will have to sort that out and soon.

Totally agree with Bed, you've got plenty of time to do one more auto run. Grab yourself some Dutch Passion (Quantity) or Dinafem (Quality) beans and throw and grow once more. (Dinafems Auto Moby Dick for the best of both worlds), I know you've got your photos but these autos are so much fun. LST their nuts.... skirts off as well. Do you take cuttings from your photos??

Just got back from work so I'm gonna have a smoke and a brew before popping back to look and comment properly on your ladies.

You stay classy Sapphire

:peace:

:yoinks: What is with this freaky crop-fragging weather?! LOL! I hope your crew made through it without mishap, namely mold...(full red alert on that!).... it looked like your area got more of it than I did too... it's still muggy as hell, but that'll change very soon- a heat wave of sorts is on by the weekend! That at least will help things... I actually hauled the remaining gals in and put'm under a ceiling fan, which did the trick; by this weekend most if not all will be plucked, shucked, and racked... with proper humidity levels for drying finally... I'm sweatin' over the Red Dwarfs because the pace of drying has been alarmingly slow....
:roflcry: I love the graphics in Honi's pic! Man, those little b-n's just won't go away!... Well, at least I don't think they'll snack on the buds at this point- too gnarly! I see trapped, slowly dying vermin here and there on mine, so the trich's are certainly doing their job! Meantime, yeah, let'm all cook some more, though I'd stop the feeding at this point, just to force the issue some for these stubborn girls, especially that green-freak Charlotte!... Did you make a full up close and personal inspection for mold yet? The way they're built just invites this, unfortunately, so really get deep in there.... I imagine the photo girls handled it all with aplomb though...! hope you don't find what you're looking for!! :smoke:

Very impressed with your grow. I wait for all the hairs to turn red and the large fan leaves to yellow. For sativa I harvest while the trics are still milky, I let indica go for a week or two more (upper fan leaves yellowing). The buds seem to do most of there swelling in the last few weeks and flushing for more than a week seems a waste to me, because I have no taste (ha,ha).
