New Grower Bay Area Backyard Grow Take TWO :D

These pics are from yesterday, just posting the AKR & PE for now.

These Afghan Kush Ryders smell hashy! The trichomes on these ladies are mainly cloudy/white - in my notes I think I might have spotted a little amber on Anne (can sometimes be a reflection, not sure), and possibly a little clear on Ayesha, but overwhelmingly cloudy.

Anne

Ayesha
6.7 Ayesha rotate.jpg6.7 Ayesha above.jpg If this were a photo plant I might have waited a few days but now I'm a little excited to try the difference in the high (if any, really) between the two AKRs.

The Pineapple Express gals smell fruity! And you can stick a fork in them because they are DONE! The trichomes aren't just cloudy, they are solid WHITE. All of 'em. Looking forward to testing the stone on these flowers!

Sarah
6.7 Sarah purple tips.jpg6.7 Sarah above.jpg6.7 Sarah bud rotate.jpg This little mutant swelled up to a nice little lady! She got a little purple on the leaf edges, probably from cold, but it's pretty!

Pamela
6.7 Pamela gettin ready.jpg6.7 Pamela above.jpg I was hoping for a little more plumping, but I made a slideshow of her progress and the fattening has really slowed already.

Princess
6.7 princess 11.5 weeks.jpg6.7 princess bud enhanced.jpg Look at those pom-poms! :D Her buds have been darkish/purple for a week or more - again probably too cold for her... The bud shot is a side bud with "color enhancement" on. Looks pretty, doesn't capture the frostiness!
:bong:

These 5 ladies all went in the 2nd bedroom last night!! Hubby put blankets over the widows for me and even taped the edges shut! :smoke: The smell this morning is INCREDIBLE!! AKR's were the most aromatic in the garden, but the Pineapple smell has taken OVER! Not just fruity anymore, but actual pineapple!

My husband hasn't been paying too much attention to the ladies, and he was sure happy last night carrying them in! He goes thru phases of smoking and not smoking (he's currently on a "not" kick LOL) but he mentioned wanting to try the ladies when they are ready, OF COURSE! :hot:

For now, the Hazes and Orig Amnesias remain in the yard, but maybe only until tonight. I could give them a good flush and leave them for a few days but really I think my mind is made up about finishing them now - I think I need more sativa energy in my life! :cough: If I could just stop thinking and over-thinking for a moment... :roflcry:

OK, I'm done for now! Catch you all later! :smokebuds:

Congrats on the harvest those ladies looked awesome full of frosty buds for you to enjoy.:jaw:

Monday is 12 weeks *already* :wiz:
<--- Cripes! :joint: No lie...I don't know what's more absurd: the sheer speed of those 3 mo's warping by, or my (our) futile cane-waving grousing over the fact! :break: :roflcry: Somebody please mash this button!! **** Yup, Hazels step-twin mini-Cobra is going dark for a couple days starting tonight; both developed some nice purple blushing, just like your girls did (nice how they all like the same shade of eye-shadow! LOL!),.. our cool nights helped with that!
There's all kinds of wiggle-room for evaluating readiness, I think.... there has to be, since I believe what Muddy-san is saying is that no one thing (trich's or leaf color), is the final word on it... and strain variations just widen the grey area on this! It's all about personal preference, and of course, experience with auto strains... I think you're making the right call if a less body-heavy buzz is what you want :smoke: The satv.> girls should be this way regardless, the 'A' girls should still give that Indc.> gravity buzz as well... You did pick a nice spread on I & S favored strains with this in mind anyway, just like I did! Bottom line, if the trich's are cloudy, not getting any bigger, no/scant few new pistils appearing, (ditto with bulking up), then the green light is on! :booya: Soil flushing isn't as important as it is for hydro' or even soilless, from what I gather... Muddy has an article on this too I believe...
<-- I hear you in my head doing just that, and I crack up every time! :D
Now, on to your next message!-
MMM-hmmm! wow, chunk-a-rific, Mz. S'! Again, I say you're making the right call on these girls,... especially the PE chicks!! As for the haze/amnesia girls, I say full cloudy on them, and if they're there or close, give'm a couple days to burn through more reserves and clean out some.... Oooh, how I envy that fabulous aroma of pineapple (arguably my fav.') ...You're killin' me! :lick: :D Man, I wish I could do more,... my list of strains to try is still dozens long! *sigh*...... I'll just bet hubby was lovin' that labor!! How could you say 'no' to such goodness?!
:hump: :dance2:Whoo-hooo!! Harvest time!!:dance2: :hump: Yes, we'll talk shop on this soon,(drying methods, curing, hash making, etc.).....:wiz:

Missy S. A big congrats on bringing in your first 5 ladies.

Hey they are now ladies of the night for the moment.

Ok, blame my lame attempt at humor at the very potent Canna Butter I had in my tea a while ago.

Seeing with how well you did with your Autos, I can't wait to see how your Photos finish out.

What a joy it must be partaking of the fruits of your labor. Can't wait, if mine ever make it that far before killing them first.

:peace:

Hey, thanks waira & StickMan! :smokeit:

I waited as long as I could, and I finally brought the Hazes & Orig Amnesias in for darkness this morning... er, rather Hubby did. :booya: The Hazes did yellow up a bit more, but the OA just refused to budge so what the heck, everybody in! I also trimmed up and photographed the PE's & AKR's this morning. I just want to say, it is SOOOO much easier to trim an autoflower, especially the size I grew (hahaha) compared to the photosensitive plants. MAN! I did all 5 by myself, and it was soooo nice just sitting on the couch having the containers inside. Far cry from the huge mess the photos were last year!

M'kay, I don't know how much cannabis anyone reading this has trimmed, but these buds were very leafy - meaning clumps of leaves that left big indents when trimmed out. Still looks pretty sloppy to me but the buds left are fairly solid as opposed to airy. We'll have to see how they dry... Of course I'll be trimming up and shaping them more when they are off the stems but I wanted to be fair and get some of the bulk off before I took the pics.

6.10 PE trimmed.jpg6.10 AKR trimmed.jpg

OH - 141 grams of trim = roughly 5 oz. from these 5 plants. Already in a baggie in the freezer awaiting further instructions. :hot: I have friends that make BHO using 2 different methods, and some dry ice bags I've never used. In the past I've always made cannabutter, and I'm sure I'll have plenty to do that with also, especially since we still have 5 "ladies of the night" waiting to be trimmed... :twist:

You're not far behind, waira! I'm not sure the 2 days of darkness made any difference or not, but I'm glad I did it just for how great the room smelled!! I often have my cannabutter in hot chocolate, SM, which is what I think I deserve now, after all the typing of the words and posting of the pictures... :smoke:

:pimp: Night everyone, thanks for stopping by!
:smokebuds:

:D Everybody outta the pool! :yoinks: So, you didn't want to sweat the OA's and Hz's for another week, huh? LOL! Do I detect a hint of impatience? :cough: You sure do with me and my girls!....for several good reasons, I want to wrap this partial-dud grow of mine up and focus on the next round! ( which reminds me, I have to go by your photo thread next)... The A and P girls look nice and chunky! I hear ya about the amount of leaf though,...I see it in even my better plants, and it has me wondering mightily WTF is causing this to happen- even in happy well grown plants; is it something genetic, like the 'rudy' genes exerting dominance over the typical photo build, or more likely just how they grow outside due to environmental factors?...is it actually the norm', and all the killer fat calyx packed colas we see elsewhere are just luck of the draw? ...is it a nutrition/timing of issue?... Sheer amount of light during flowering? I know this for sure, we don't see it much with folks who grow indoors,... Word, G! :toke: In fact this bugging the shit outta me enough that I'm going to ask some Sensei's about this... 'cause if I get more leafy bud again, no matter how sticky/stinky, I'm done with auto's unless I go indoors...

--- you and me both! I processed the better looking RRF, mini cobra, and a UV last night; aside from the cobra, when you strip off all the leaf, you end up with a lot less than you think initially, huh! I'm going to have plenty of dry-ice hash in the end , no doubt! I have to go find some proper mesh material or buy one of the cheap sets of water-extrct. bags- LOL! and here you are with a set that's not been used yet! From what I read, I want to stay with dry ice to preserve the terpenes and keep some character in the hash; water/ice method reportedly loses much of this... **** :smoke:Yes! the dark room smells wonderful, and though I can't say the trich's were notably larger, the aromatics did intensify.... and if Muddy does it routinely, so will I! I'm not much for the edibles, the buzz is too groggy and wood headed feeling... Oh yeah, for hash making dry-style, folks seem to think drying the trim like normal, then freezing works better, as it keeps unwanted moisture out of the product, and is easier to work with.... I found a tutorial by Spelsylver on KISS dry ice hash in the hash section! LOL! She found decent mesh in the bridal textile section, so guess who's going shopping for a nice veil,...:brow: :roflcry:
I'll let you know what I find out about the leafy issues, okay?....

YES I was/am feeling impatient! Very, very rookie mistake! LOL :face:

Now, of course, I wish I *had* let them go longer... I had it in my head that 12 weeks was the LIMIT for autos, genetically speaking, but naturally since I pulled them into darkness I've read here in this forum about people letting them go 90 or 100 days... D'OH! Oh well, it's all good because I learned that two overlapping crops are too much for me! :smoke: I already have a revised plan in my head for next year (not giving up on the autos!), but for now I'm satisfied with my auto experience and YES I'M GLAD it's only Honi out there now playing with the big kids! :crying:

YES please DO let me know what you find out about the leafy bud syndrome! LOL They do not at ALL resemble the photograph from the seed company!! :D *snort* It may well be an irritating ruderalis trait that can perhaps be overcome with lots of light - because most of my photo plants look like "normal" plants with actual buds... Could just be a lack of light thing, in general, too... So yes, please do keep me in the loop! Thanks!

Thanks for the tip about not immediately freezing trim that I mean to make dry hash with... I wondered how the ice crystals would affect it! hahahaha If I think about it, it could probably be made with fresh, unfrozen trim, because the dry ice serves to freeze the plant material so the trichomes fall off... Hmmmm... My trim was too dry I thought last year, which is why the bags are still unused! :cough: I know for BHO it's best to use frozen trim, my friend suggested freezing it right away for one method. I'm due to trim the last 5 plants that are in the dark today, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that I could be making dry ice hash this afternoon... I better check that thread you speak of for more tips!

Have fun at the fabric store!! You'll probably get lots of attention, too, since the men-folk don't frequent the fabric/bridal shops too much... *snicker*

Catchya later - and THANKS for your feedback, my friend! :D

Thanks for the rep, Storms! :D

Hey y'all - just poppin in for a (hopefully) quick update...

The PE's and AKR's were hung-dried for a few days and I just finished trimming them up for curing. VERY disappointing yield!! :cuss: LOL It would have been more if I hadn't gone crazy with the micro-trimmers, but I cut out most of the leaves and was left with SUPER-airy "buds."

Avg. 17g/plant for PEs
Avg. 22 g/plant for AKR's

Wow. The buds I just finished gave me some super-trichomed trim, tho - and if all goes well I may do the dry-ice thing later on...

The Hazes & OA's were still in the dark room as of this morning - been there since Monday! I got a bit overwhelmed, and this morning intended to give them all haircuts - but I decided to put Hazel & Charlotte back out! After 4 days in the dark, no water or food, they are STILL not yellowing. Jessica might go back out too, but I'm getting Julie & MamaBlue ready for hanging today for sure.

Fed them almost full-strength nutes with molasses. F**k it!! :twist: They may hermie or trip out in some form after going back into the light, but I really, truly have practically NOTHING to lose and I'm definitely going to gain some information.

6.13 tres amigas.jpg Tres Amigas! LOL

Two sides of each plant after 4 days in the dark...
6.13 char 2.jpg6.13 Charlotte.jpg6.13 hazel 2.jpg6.13 hazel.jpg

When I see them in person, they both look like the fox tail ball things have gotten larger, but compared to the last pics they look about the same. Anyway, the photo plants won't flower for another month+, so as far as I'm concerned these gals can grow until then if they still aren't done by then. SHEESH. So much for trying the earlier trichomes, but if I don't at least try to improve the yield I'll kick myself...

I also want to talk about the CFL streetlight that is right next to our house and shines all night on the plants and whether or not NOT getting a dark cycle, EVER, could have something to do with the airy/leafy buds, but I'm a little overwhelmed right now, :help: so I'll research it later. If you have any thoughts on it I'd love to hear it.

I don't think I'm capable of making a "quick" update... :crying:
:smokebuds:

:roflcry: So, the Green Mile gals got a reprieve from the Gov'ner, huh? Man, 4 days in solitary and they took it like it was a vacation! ... showing their tough side now, I guess...Like you say, nothing really to lose, but to prevent any off-flavors, best to just water them from here out,... I don't expect them to build much more at this point, and this will help force them to finish up faster. ... Is that Honi on the left? She looks good! I'm trippin' on hazel- good lord, she's a mono-bush! *** Yeah, yields will not be anything to gush about, regardless, especially after the quality trimming they need...Still, 17 and 22 dried ave. is not so bad at all, considering the size of the plants; what I got off of mini Cobra and the 'better' RRF was smirk-worthy, but what's there looks pretty good! (haven't weighed yet) They're nearly dry now, and I'll jar'm up soon, then maybe take a sample to see what kinda kick and aromatics to expect... Have you sampled yet? :brow: **** I've got some updating to do at my thread, including the promised wisdom's of the sensei's... *** LOL! haven't made it back to the fabric store yet, but will very soon... I just hope I can find the right mesh size... from what I see, the trich' heads are smaller on these, but overall surface density is good, so we'll see what kinda shake n' bake goodies come of it! :smoke:
I honestly don't know about that street light, luv... it shouldn't be of any issue to the auto's; recall that some here run them on 24hr lights, or 20/4,... the photo's, probably not either... you had no trouble last year, right? Regardless, the effect on leafiness isn't related, as you'll see later,... Stay tuned! :D
