Important question guys and really need to know what would be the best type of soil to buy from garden centre, I am thinking of buying some some multi purpose .compost by John Innes and mixing in some garden lime the soil I refer to in their description says this about it : " This advanced nutrient-rich compost is an ideal general purpose compost for most young plants, providing the correct growing conditions for optimum growth. It contains loam (John Innes), formulated to hold water and nutrients for longer, protecting plants from under or over-feeding by releasing nutrients when needed. Perlite has also been added to improve the compost structure and allow adequate air movement around the roots. Multi-Purpose Compost with added John Innes is also much easier to rewet after drying and remains moist for longer after watering.

Can anyone tell me if this would be good enough? Thanks in advance :tiphat:

Many thanks again Blue for that, the compost I refer to is actually made by Westlands Multi purpose compost with added John Innes do you think this will be okay? I do intend to mix pearlite and garden lime in with it.

Does it have time release nutes?
How many?

As we know - autos don't like hot (nuted) soil. I'd be looking for something very gentle.
Best always to read whats in there before buying. Thats why people like Biobizz light, plagron light, and the other popular soils mentioned at AFN, you could make it easy for yourself and og for one of those, or take a change on something untested.

Personally i like to let others make mistakes and learn by those, but if you're the adventurous type who likes to experiment - go for it! ^_^

@Warrior: If you`re going to use Westlands, make sure you go for No. 1. I would also get a smaller bag of seedling compost. Start the seeds in the latter(small pot) and then remove the bottom and tier into main pot(with the Westlands no.1), 7-10 days after after your beans emerge. I would also throw some perlite into the mix(for drainage and t`allow good airation, main pot only). I`ve tried Westlands, it does a job, but I got a moody bag last time
, so will be looking elsewhere next time!:2cents: :peace:

On a side note...No need t`feed for 3-4 weeks with the John Innes added!
