Live Stoner Chat best water to use

...The kind I get is carbon-filtered RO water with sodium bicarbonate, calcium chloride, and magnesium sulfate added back in. It has a ppm of around 25, and it buffers pH well.

That's awesome! My main problem with the RO water from the store was that there were NO minerals left in it and it just would not buffer. I hope I can find a source with the sodium bicarbonate, calcium chloride, and magnesium sulfate added back in....I haven't even heard of that. :) Cool, AB!

I just checked the bottle and Primo is the brand I use. They have a store locator on their website: http://www.primowater.com

Thanks for all the help guys has anybody tried purified water?

Here's the ingredients for the nestle purified water at Walmart

Would this be better to use than distilled water? My dumbass thought sodium bicarbonate was salt so that would be bad to use for salt build up or other reasons :dunno:

A little baking soda and calmag in the mix - that looks like exactly what you need, fweedom. :d5: Distilled is no good for maintaining pH.

I love rain water and so do my plants! I catch it every time it rains and ad some molasses a little E salt I really dont think you can beat rain water. Anyone ever went outside just before the rain when you can smell the rain and you look down and the grass is extra green and the blades are standing very tall? I think it has somthing to do with plants genetics that they adjust them selves to get rain water and i also believe lighting or static has an affect on plants as well.. or positive negative ions :Sharing One:

I use a DI resin filter, sort of thing window cleaners and car detailers use. These maintain tap pressure unlike ro filters which can take hours just to fill a bucket.

This is the one I have:

Hi Diesel,

How long to fill a bucket with one of those resin filters? Im just about to buy an RO filter and you may have stopped me :)

What is the EC or PPM of the water once filtered?
Do you fill a water butt and pump air through a stone or just draw it straight from the tap via the filter?
Last question, sorry to jump all over you... What are you growing in, soil/hydro/coco etc etc ?

Thanks :)

There is no loss of tap pressure through the di filter, and I have retired my ro filter because it took forever (2 days) to fill a 250ltr res. Im growing in hydro (rdwc) so it was a pain when doing a full water change.

As for EC Ill check again tonight to make sure any info I give is accurate, ie my tap EC and then di filter EC.

Mate must be my lucky day I was all up for buying a big dirty expensive RO machine until I found your post.
I never heard of these DI filters, just bought a 25l vessel with the magic powder all ready to go and no loss of pressure for me :)
Brilliant, so no more hard water... Its bloody useless what comes out the taps up here.

Good man Diesel !!

Ok my tap water is pH 7.4 and EC 0.6.

Di Filter water is pH 7.3 and EC 0.0.

Di water is very sensitive to ph change so only a pipette drop of ph down is needed for a big drop. Once you have added your nutes (unless they are ph perfect) you may find that you need pH up. I offset this by using silicon and when measured out correctly gives me pH 5.8.

Now just because the EC is 0.0 I dont know if the Di filter will take out all chemicals, but Im sure there is someone much brighter than myself who can advise on this.

Thanks for taking the time Diesel and good tip on the ph adjusting
Clean water for me tomorrow or Friday... Cant wait.

Your water is pretty hard same as mine.
Im on PH 8.3 and EC 0.6/0.8.
I think clean water is going to be a big help this end.

out.
