Hi all, I have a story to tell and a question at the end of it.. Jush had a few hits of some awesome Big Bud auto so please excuse if i ramble....
Recently I purchased 5 Big Bud autos seeds from http://www.marijuana-seeds.nl/big-bud-auto.html it was a two for one offer so i actually got 10 feminised seeds. surprising 100% germination rate too. So far this summer (Australia sept-april) i have had two auto harvests outdoors in pots already and the third has just been planted. The harvests have been varied strains but all harvests worked perfect and responded as autos should. All plants got between 30 cm - 50 cm and flowered. Not much vertical growth during flowering and with all plants i ended up with some very nice resinous stash jars full of nuggs.
Recently i planted 5 big bud autos, in my previous harvest i had planted two and was pleased with them so this time (my final outdoor auto grow for the summer) i decided to plant 5. I started them in seed raiser mix in small cups and as soon as they cracked the soil i kept them under 24 hour light, CLF's during the night and out in the sun during the day. This final harvest i decided to plant them directly into my vegie garden rather than into 20 litre pots that i used for the previous two harvests. As a side note the soil in the pots is the same as in my vegie patch. When they were about an inch tall i transplanted them as i always do however into the vegie patch rather than into pots. I wanted to see how much bigger the plants would grow with no limit to root growth that pots can cause.
About two weeks passed, the plants were growing well and got to about 4 - 6 inches tall and just today i noticed all 5 have started flowering.... way sooner than usual as at 4 inches they had at least another 6-8 inches to grow before they started to flower. At this rate they wont see 8 inches when finished and the harvest will be tiny. The only think i did different from previous harvests, other than planting in the vegie patch, was putting the seedlings under 24 hour light for the first week. Previous harvests all seeds have been germinated outdoors under a normal photo period.
My question, finally, is why the hell would all 5 plants have flowered premature. Could the radical reduction from 24 hour light to outside photo period have caused them to flower early even though they are Autos ?? We are in the declining end of summer in Australia but i cant see that preventing them from growing normally given there is still 2 months of good summer sun left.
I mainly get my seeds from "the attitude" now as i find the service and range better than where i got the big bud auto seeds from. Can anyone suggest why these 5 plants flowered so small, its pissed me off as it was my last harvest for the season and i wanted a nice stash of the BB auto as it smokes really nice with a mellow mixed stone and nice flavour.
