Lighting Big sm0's - helpful DIY cob grow light build.

I'm just trying to keep an open mind is all, these boards remind of the samsung strips just larger surface area of diodes seems to fit the mantra of many COB's driven "softer" for better coverage but that's not the theory I used for my lights so it's new to me.

I'm witcha. I think they are xp-g3's too right? Regular leds can be more efficient if run right. I just feel it's like dissecting a cob by dividing it when cobs solved that problem. It could be a great way to supplement too but then read on the other forum where everyone cuts it up.

Ah I hadn't seen that. Interesting. i am conjuring up in my pea brain a COB/Diode Strip LED light for "supplemental" lighting using some Citi's and the Samsung hard strips............I think a combo of this would be good for the closet tent we were discussing before? My veg tent I don't want to touch a damn thing it's on auto pilot right now and I'm scared to screw it up lol. Running out of room and gonna need to setup the other 3x3 I think lol.........this shit gets to a point where it just gets a mind of it's own, space for mom, clones, to sex regs, to grow autos, etc..........

I think the spare 3x3 should be setup just for my autos then I don't screw with the timing on the lights in any of my other tents............

And to think earlier this year I was using that shitty HH ProGro 260 in a closet tent thinking I'll just set something simple up lol.......

Kinda sounds like an amare panel lol. My strips are just to even out the 6500k's blue and give the babies something softer to be born to. Nevertheless I love hybrid lights. The proof is in my pudding :rofl:

Well I wasn't talking about red and blue mono's lol........just the samsung strips and some COB's together driven soft like for side lighting for lower canopy etc :idea:

@BigSm0

I'll be emailing NGL Monday. Going to try out a couple of the boards for the closet tent and see how it goes. I think for the price involved will be an easy DIY and good value for the $$ and will give me a good look at these new board with some real green under them.

If they are selling them I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised. This all started with that Samsung hard strip thread. Mark and robin saw the interest and all of a sudden comparable pieces are sold. Xp-g3's are serious leds. They are what comes in all amares pro series lights. So I'm checking the growth and appearance of the DIY vs the Amare side and again the difference is noticeable. I'm not sure if it's the higher cri or what but it's hard fact there is a difference. The plant under DIY is about 20 days older and the Amare side is now just catching up.

Wow that's crazy. I just thought of something though, I may not want this for the closet tent in 3K because of the 5 foot height right?

That just means you'll need to train them more. You can fit a 1/2 lb auto in 5' with allot of attention. Not sure if you remember the picture

This is what happens to untrained plants. The tallest bud was 6 feet from the floor. This was due to the previous crop taking longer than expected and these all sat in a 4x6 room for way to long. Normally my plants are around 3'6" tall since I set the scrog at 2'6". Constantly tucking and bending allowing the light to sit as low as possible.

I love that pic, given a light that penetrates enough I like to see the girls stretch like that with huge cola's lol
