Lighting BlackStar The Manual

That middle light on the blackstar,if its the one im thinking of doesn't produce any visible light,I think it's IR..I don't have my panel here any more to check for certain though mate

Out of curiosity, how big is that girl?
Thanks for the likes/comments guys!

Unfortunately, she is not too big since I had some problems early on. But to answer your question, she is about 15 inches tall.

It's all good though, it looks like she will produce nicely. :toke:

15" isn't bad! I was just wondering because of the light tho :smokebuds: looks tasty, that's for sure!

Thanks dude, its an organic grow and just fed them some alfalfa, kelp, high P bat guano, and molasses. Hope it all works out.

I don't mean to de-rail this thread with my personal grow and since this is a Blackstar dedicated thread, I think it is fair if I share some of my findngs with this grow light.

The manufacturer recommends a 2x2 (ft.) footprint. I am not sure this is accurate. I am noticing faster bud development in a 1x1 (ft.) footprint directly under the light. It is my honest opinion that to get even growth in a 2x2 footprint under the 135 watt unit, you must have an even canopy. Something like a SCROG or SOG might produce more bud under this light versus having different sized plants with varying cola heights.

As far as light to distance canopy. I experienced no stretching all the way up to 2 feet away from the top of my plants. Conversely, at the moment, the light is about 6 inches away from the tallest cola and I am still not seeing any light burns. My personal suggestion is to keep the light about 8-10 inches away from the plants for the best light penetration.

Also, the light is pretty damn loud. I actually grow in an attic right over my bathroom. When I am taking a dump/leak, I can very fainty hear a tiny hum from above where the grow light is running.

Don't get me wrong, I am not doggin' this light. I am merely sharing some of my observations. I actually still love this light and with a bit of planning/placement, I am positive this light will straight up produce. My attic gets to the low 20-30s F in the winter and 110-120s F in the summer. The lowest temps I have seen in my grow cab so far is 55 degree F and the highest I have seen is 79 degree F.

I can live with it.

i just wanted to throw in my :2cents: about the blackstar LED's.
i love mine! i have a 240watt in my closet and ive done about 4-6 autos, and i have 4 photo's going right now under it... 2 have been chopped today, and the other 2 are going for a few more days.... fruity chronic juice, jack herer, moby dick, and mk ultra.
also one of my grows got nominated for bud of the month. i didnt win, but it was one of my goals to at least get nominated. as a grower its always good to set a goal and try to reach for it and my LED helped me reach it. if my account ever gets restored any time soon i'll post some of those photos.
But i have to say this blackstar was a smart investment

next up is my kush von stitch indoor :P
and once this az weather gets up i'll be doing some dr. feelgood outside.. right now the low gets to about 45`F (7`cel), and high's about 65`F (19`cel) so i cant do anything outdoors for another month or two.

PS: THE CON'S about my blackstar:
i can relate to the people that have said a middle light had burnt out.... because mine has also burnt out.
before i purchased my blackstar i read that there's one light that will appear to be off, or broken, or not working... but thats normal - i guess its a UV light or something that remains clear. which is fine, so i bought it.
fast forward to I dont know when, but when i was inspecting my blackstar i noticed on of the center lights looks corroded, and not only that, it looks like what ever popped or what ever happend inside seemed to of made a circular plume on the clear panel - like if a planet explodes the circle you see after is what mine looks like.
now whats weird is the light still works.... it looks blue.
but you can see corrosion around it.. i'll try to get a few pics up so you guys can see what im saying.

I emailed them about it but havent heard anything back yet, and its been over 5 months. =(
But I love the light, and Im probably going to get another one. Hopefully this next one wont have the same problem :)

I really love how much temperature control the Blackstar LED gives the user. I have never been able to keep temps low enough to induce purplish pigmentation on any of my plants. For me, this would be impossible with HID lighting.

The ir led produces lots o heat I don't think they planned for this very well since everyone's lenses seem to melt. It's s small issue for the cost of the lights. I'm not hating just my thoughts. I've got 3 different blsckstar lights. A 240w veg, a 240w bloom, and a chrome series small 4 spot. Loving em so far we''ll see how they do with my current photo grow.

It looks like there 4 feet away? IMO 12"
