Lighting BlackStar The Manual

This is a good thread to find, begins well, "18 - 24" for veg, ---VERY IMPORTANT POINT--- wish i had found it earlier. The 240's run so cool and efficiently you might think why not move it a little closer for some extra par right its only 130 actual watts right? DONT DO IT!! Even at 14" that 130 watts will fry a young seedling beyond recognition, give at least 24" for young plants as this light (2012 uv model) is some powerful shit, on the flip side once you make it to flowering 10"-14" it will produce some powerful shit, dense and juicy fruits, I think that without all of the extra heat that other lights produce, more flavor is trapped into the bud in combination with the extra resin nothing gets baked away while budding, this results in much less smell while growing but way more flavor/potency, you gotta love that. Keep Thread Alive. Perhaps someone would like to share some nute tips with us?

I agree. I wish that I had found this out sooner. I lost two plants do to having the light to close. I couldn't figure it out. I was so scared of stretching and used to an HPS that I figured I could keep it extra close due to temps. I still prefer to veg under traditional lighting.

Peace.

Sorry for your troubles Groffuwiwi but I wish you would stop calling your unit a BlackStar. It could get confusing and also send the wrong message about BlackStar LED's. I love the info you're providing though, especially the inside pics of the unit. I think there are some pics floating around somewhere on the site of the innards of a BS. I'll take a look. :smokebuds:

That UV light is working, the burn around it is from the UV. Remember, you can't see UV with the naked eye.

Very good point Mr.Piggy this is why you are able to find deals on used Blackstars
as most people think the led is bad so they will sell for a nice discount.Of course if your an upstanding person you will explain that to them
Which will most often still get you a nice discount of being an honest person :D
even if you dont get the discount Karma is on your side..

I used to be into competition car audio, and one thing I learned about a good amp, also goes for a good LED. Cheap unoriginal amp companies are constantly making their Amps try to look like the most popular and quality amps. The same thing happens in grow lights, you usually get what you pay for. It pays to study up and read as much as you can when buying a light. If another company makes a light that looks almost exactly like another light, then it is probably a cheap scam (the exception being two companies with relative owners that make their products in the same build house, not a common occurrence). The internals are what make the difference on a good LED, just like a good amp! A beginner knowledge of electricity and watts can help a lot with this. I chose a blackstar LED because I was looking for the best bang for the buck, you get the most power per dollar, and I saw a lot of people putting up nice harvests with them. If I had more money, and I wanted to get more out of the spaces have, then maybe I'd get a higher quality light for more money. But when trying to fill a couple tents with purple lights on a budget, the blackstar is great!

Groffuwiwi let's just agree to disagree my friend and smoke on it :smokebuds: I love all the info you're providing bro, I've always said that.

"Buy from a quality provider and you will have a good quality product." I believe you said it best right here, totally agree.

Your giving info on your light which is not a blackstar and it's in a thread called blackstar the Manuel.I asked a few posts back to not post if it's not a proper unit.now here's how this thread works,if your led is not a proper blackstar is not supposed to be here,period..you saying there's no such thing as an og blackstar is silly too.of course there are,Gotham sell them.they reasearched and came up with a unit that a chinese company can manufacture for cheaper, and just because they dont build them in house, that doesn't mean there not og.Nike has the trainers made in china, there still Nike's though? I think all your posts need there own thread cause anyone new reading this will be confused by your posts about a unit that's not a blackstar

I totally agree Red this is not the place. I can get some cheap ass fake Nikes if you want some Red but they will fall apart in no time and they may damage your ankles lol.

you can read all the information and misinformation that you want! plenty of both! all four of my led's have the star and the lighthouse emblems.
and you can believe anything you want, but i would say forget brand names, and look at the plant's that are being grown under blackstar's, and if you can grow them as good under your led, and you payed less, then more power to you! if your plant's dont hold up to the same quality, then you are wrong. show us the plant's and we will know if your right or wrong!:2cents::peace:we will look forward to your result's

That's exactly what I'm saying and exactly why calling your unit a "blackstar" is misleading. There may not be a blackstar "factory" but there is a build house, and certain electronics, like apple, and blackstar are designed by companies here and then assembled in china. So yes they are built with a plethora of electronic parts, but these parts come in a ton of different forms and quality. So the company that takes the time to do research and study all the spectrums, wave lengths, colors, angles, power output and so on, design a light and map out every single part that goes into it. Just because a product comes from china does not mean that every other product that looks exactly like it and comes from china is the same. That is like you saying that you have a Lexus, when you really have a Kia! Yes they are both cars but the quality of parts, design, and engineering set them far apart from each other. A real blackstar is honestly the lowest price and quality of LED I would use, having studied the other actual grow companies, so finding an even lower quality light and calling it a blackstar can really confuse some people. No they are not all the same

And about your links you posted, a lot of those are selling the same blackstar lights, they are retailers who purchase the blackstar and sell it online, not a foreign concept! That's like finding 3 Internet sites that sell apple, and saying "which one is the real apple?". They all are, just different stores selling the same light (although a few of those sites may make their own copy of the blackstar, but those companies will have to have a noticeable difference. They can't have the lighthouse or star emblem)

I'm not exactly sure of the relationship but BlackstarLED and Lighthousehydro are affiliated. Gotham is the US distributor and Grownorthern is the European distributor, so they are all the same lights. To my knowledge, they have never claimed otherwise. GrowLEDhydro is a separate company selling lights designed to their own specifications. I know this first hand as I own one of their 240 watt lights as well as three Blackstars. They are not the same lights. Totally different design and different brand LEDs and drivers used.
