Lighting BlackStar The Manual

kwalker, you're new here I assume by the post count - but this community doesn't let threads digress. The admins and moderators are very diligent in keeping the community productive and helpful, what you did is similar to seeing a house on fire, call 911 because it's on fire and then throwing a couple of molitovs into the broken windows. Makes no sense.

I've foliar fed with BlackStar LEDs. I foliar fed several different general nutes and most of them seemed to stain the leaves or cause a weird kind of burn. Didn't look like nute burn but it was like a leaf bleaching almost. I only tried this 4-5 times before I wasn't sure of the harm it was causing.

I sold them, they just did not meet my needs. Great for compact grows but 3x 240w BlackStar's couldn't support my 8 plants without a ton of supplemental lighting which negated the enticing low heat imprint.

I just retrofitted my small box with a 100W BlackStar 6 Band Flowering 100W.... the space is 11" x 16" and there is only 15"'s in height. Reading some concerns about light distances, I'm hoping I don't lose the 2 betty boo seedlings that are popping out of the rockwool as we speak.

I was leaning toward the 50w but Gotham recommended the 100w. I ran CFL's before and I'm truly amazed at how little heat this thing puts off. I can easily keep this thing at the outside ambient temp. I was about 9 degrees higher with CFL's.

I try to run really simple... hydro following Lucas using only the FloraNova Bloom. I'll be watching this thread.

How far exactly is your light from the seedlings? As well as your temps?

Blind advice is get the light as high as you can get it and start training your plants (LST) as soon as they're strong enough. Train them to stay low :wiz:

Welcome to the site. :smokebuds:

Hay dude welcome, your light sounds perfect to me,the BS 100w runs 2w and 3w diodes and the optics are 1 or 2 generations old so you will be able to get them closer than some lights also if you are worried about the light intensity when the plants are seedlings just angle the light towards a wall to defuse the light a little.

Thanks, guys!

The light is 15"'s from the top of the reservoir and the temps are around 71 to 73°F.

Last run I scrogged, but these betty boos are supposed to be really short growers, so I'm thinking I'll play this one by ear.

That is a little close so u props wanna keep your plant at 5 or 6 inches so your 10 inches from the light. Keep us updated dude your grow will be great.

I'm watching the seedlings close... a tilting of the light might be a comin'!
