Hello all and happy new year !
I received a blue seed from an Argentinian friend who received it from a Canadian friend.

I have absolutely no info on this mystery seed.

Genetics or Spray paint ?

Anybody ever come across that kind of trait ?

I've worked with a lot of highly coloured cannabis..and I've seen red phenos transfer colour onto the seed..but..I'm guessing..simply because of the blue colour that it could be some sort of preservative or mold inhibitor the seeds have been dipped in...:headbang:..

But.. someone might know better....:headbang:...

I've seen this recently with another seed company. I would suspect you're correct. I've read that it can used to identify certain seeds in a seed lot, but that seems a bit silly for cannabis seeds.

The colour said that blue copper fungicide to me ..and I could see it being beneficial to colour code seed in industrial batches.

I've also seen ordinary garden seed sprayed. Parsley sprayed a lurid green...coz the seed is so fine...it helps you See where you've planted.. :headbang:

So must be a relatively cheap process...coz there ain't big profits in parsley seed...:pass:

I've seen this before in the Ontario Cannabis store. It was from one of the big licensed commercial producers here in Canada. I don't remember any more what one. I thought it was pretty strange and wondered why they would do that.

Seems more popular in ag seed (not canna seed):

Sprayed seed coatings are protective layers of polymers, minerals, and/or biologicals applied to seeds to improve handling, germination, nutrient delivery, and protection against pests and diseases, often using vibrant dyes for identification
