Jeez time to put them into 5 gallon buckets. I am using used soil compost mix this grow. All my used potting soil goes into a compost pile outdoors. Out of that pile I filled the 5 gallon buckets. Nice system for good weather but it wont last much longer. There are many pine and cedar trees above dropping pine cones and needles. Hope I dont grow a pine tree
and I hear you on the fungus gnats, keeping a dry surface is a must cos of them but as you say, then you can't feed and water freely, and that should have priority. I'm trying a layer of quick-drying substrate (basalt 2-5mm) because I can't afford nematodes. Hope they do the job for ya mate
