Ok folks let me start by saying im not after anything I just need to vent talk get it off my chest kind of thingy

Ok 5 year ago I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis in my lower back (after a work injury) any way the doc told I was going to suffer with chronic pain(he wasn't wrong)
jumping forward to today I got the letter I was dreading next week I go for an operation on my L2/L3 disk and as the title says im bricking it i really hate hospitals

Its not a major life threatening op (more life style for me )and to cut a long story short they are saying there could be complications I suffer from angina as well plus there is a very small chance I could end up in a wheelchair (that's my worst fear)from nerve damage I know its just a small chance but with my luck who knows i just want to say HIDE ME PLEASE lol
that feels better i got that off me chest
thanks folks

That's pretty grim man. Sorry to year that.

Is the op nessasary or more of a pain relief? As you prob know... we got some kick ass pain relief here.

Best of luck

The surgeon says its necessary if i walk more than 100 yards my legs go numb and i loose all feeling in them for the past 2 year i haven't been able go out the house without a walking stick and someone with me and i hate that
cheers nudd

Ah right dude. Maybe best to go ahead then.

I got probe with my legs too.. not been to see about it but when I walk for a half mile or so... my legs start to do their own thing.. and people actually ask me if I've been drinking. My knees let go and my feet go dead and just hit the floor flat on. If I go out now I bring my young son with me in his pram in case I keel over... all started when I got reversed on by an x5 jeep.

Good luck and good vibes your way dude, back surgery sucks. I had metal rods put on my spine when I was 18 due to my scholiosis, recovery was hard and a pain in the ass but there some things you just got to do.:pighug:

Hi nudd,

Mrs. oldster has had 2 back surgeries (one upper and one lower) and her only regret was waiting so long to have the surgeries. Best of luck and don't freak yourself out with worry. Positive feelings generate positive results

Nudd. Back surgery is not like it was decades ago. Most is microsurgery. I had the same operation L2-3 in 2008 after about three years of pain. In fact, it is better yet not like the old back. Had a scan recently for something else. Radiologist noted bulging discs from L2 to 5 and a twisty spine. The doc back in 08 told me as we age we all have slight to debilitating disc bulges. And ones weight is a big influence--explains why I now have 4 and 5 effected.

My back surgery was less painful than the one on my shoulder. And rehab was quicker.

You will be in and out and feel much better. Probably stay in hospital for less than 24 hours. You will be surprised as to how smooth it all goes.

Cheers

Thank you for the support guys it is very much appreciated
its not the actual op that scares me its the fact that I could end up in a wheelchair I know its a slim chance but people play the lottery with worse odds and win
thanks again guys

Good luck brother!
Ive had an operation on L4/L5 discs.
Went very well, near perfect recovery. I was out on the 2nd day and never looked back.
They say being well hydrated when going in and after the op is very good.

I certainly won't try to assuage the anxiety...that's perfectly normal. But I will say that I'm jealous. I wish I could go in and get my herniated L5-S1 fixed. :)
