So what does everyone think when you hear budget setup? I know what I think. And in my opinion if you aren't willing to spend $250-$350 on a setup, you shouldn't be looking to grow cannabis indoors. For $329.99 on Amazon you can get a 2x2 grow tent that includes everything but potting soil or growing media "for hydro guys" and seeds. Obviously to get an optimal grow environment you may need more things like a heater, humidifier, dehumidifier, air conditioning unit or whatever... but this $330 kit gets you growing. Now maybe you can find something cheaper. There is a mars hydro kit that is $10 cheaper. Maybe you are growing in a closet and don't need a tent. Maybe you can get all these things a little cheaper somewhere else. But at the end of the day it is of my opinion that if you can't spend the money for a simple setup like this, you should not be trying to grow indoors.
What does everyone else think? Am I wrong? What are your opinions? this is about 16 cubic feet and 4 square feet. Maybe you can find a smaller grow tent kit... maybe it's 18x18. But I think for anyone serious about trying to grow their own bud, $350 and a 2x2 space in your house or apartment is what it's going to cost and if you can't spend that... just keep buying for a dealer or dispensary.

Not everyone can afford that sort of money, no matter how good the perceived value for money is. Not everyone can afford to buy from a dealer or dispensary.
If a person has some space they can play with then a little creativity & hunting for bargains on eBay or the real world then they can certainly give it a go imho :toke:

To all intents and purposes this is a full kit, the only things I have extra than this is a couple of small fans (for air flow around the buds) and a 60x60 cm plastic tray (in my 70x70 tent) for catching any run off, I have found that the bottom of the tent always leak even if its only a little run off, which is not good indoors.

I am also on the 4th iteration of my grow lamp, Mars hydro 700, converted to 10 cobs@ .6amp, then to 6 cobs and a better driver and now the same 6 cobs with a HLg-320h-c1050 running at full beans with a home made 50x50 frame and stonecold heat sinks. No need to spend a lot of money, K.I.S.S and the cheaper the better.

What would they use for a light? What are they using for air circulation or ventilation? I'm not saying that it can't be done. It is just my opinion That if you can't spend roughly $300 to get started then there is a good chance you are not going to get a good return on investment. Can you grow cannabis under a desk lamp in miracle grow? Sure. But what is your harvest and what did it cost you to get to harvest?

What did this setup cost if you had to guess?and do you think it is worth the effort to grow indoors with a lesser investment on setup? I kinda feel if you don't have the $ to buy a 2x2 grow tent kit, that you should grow outdoors and call it a day.

Initially I grew outdoors on my balcony, then had two crops destroyed by mold, so I switched to indoor, in a cupboard with the mars 700, after the 1st grow I had a harvest that saved me more than enough money to buy a cheap mars hydro 70x70 tent (that fits the cupboard perfectly) and associated minimalist kit, step by step, I wasn't sure I would enjoy growing indoors, but its worked out for the last 5-6yrs using the same tent, a new filter each year, and building my own upgrades on the lamp was cheapish and fun.

cost wise I have no idea, over time the memory fades you know ;-)

So the only initial investment really was the lamp and buckets/soil. the rest was paid for by the amounts I saved on the harvest. 4 plants, scrogged average about 325-375 gms of good bud per harvest.

I mean if you are growing in a closet maybe you don't need a tent... if you are growing legally maybe you don't need a carbon filter... I'm not saying you "cant" do it cheaper. I'm just saying I think for the average guy, this is what you need and there should be an initial investment.

It is possible to avoid the commercial hype and do a minimalist grow indoors under a $40 eBay light without buying soil or nutes or a tent, etc.

That said, I keep track of expenses, and last time I checked I have over $1,800 invested in my cheapskate continuous grow of 6 little plants. That's roughly what I spent buying 1/8's @ $25 each over the previous 16 months.

You are not really wrong, but where I live, its not really allowed by law or the building regs to have a growing kit in operation.
The tent keeps light in and makes it more efficient with the reflective walls, efficiency is important, the filter is a must as my neighbours are not smokers and would not like the aroma's... indeed, i do agree that this is an ideal beginners and complete setup, and I agree that you would be well placed to save up and start with such a kit, but its not a necessity, stick within your means and let the harvest pay for the upgrades is also a way to go ;-)

ps i did spend 200 euros building my current lamp.

So I just got on Amazon and found the cheapest items I could find.
2x2x3 grow tent $43
viparspectra P600 grow light $49.99
4inch Carbon filter 29.98
8ft 4inch flexible ducting with 2 clamps $7.99
4 inch inline fan $24.99
Timer $5.99
2 Rope hangers $6.99
Thermometer/ hygrometer $7.00
Small fan for air circulation $6.99
Total- $181.92

Now a lot of these items looked super cheap and it wouldn't cost much to upgrade to a slightly nicer item. But I'm going to say this is about as cheap as I would go for an indoor grow setup.
