Grow Mediums Can i use this for my first coco grow?

The best way to test is an accurate 8 ph meter that will check in the medium. Some folks try and cut the corners and not buy it but to the price. But if it's something that can save your entire grow and the investment in it it's a sure bet

I think you are correct about needing an Accurate 8. I don't have one and wish that I did, so it's on my "need to buy" list. I am not convinced that measuring ph from the run off with a regular ph meter is very reliable for soil or coco. Regular ph meters are great for managing nutes and if you're doing hydro, but for coco grows & other soilless mediums and soil, I don't have a heck of a lot of confidence how accurate measuring the run off really is.

Better to be safe than sorry. I've had one of those el-cheapo soil ph meters for years. A couple of days ago I decided to test it by plunging the meter into a bale of damp peat moss. The meter gave me a reading of ph 7.

Yeah. Right.... Cheap soil ph meters are worthless. If Accurate 8s are actually accurate, they're a bargain at twice the price.

wow i didnt even subscribe to my own thread!:doh::doh:
Actually you still need to monitor the ph very closely with coco. It stores or "holds onto" something that drops the ph over time. I'm beyond vigilant about monitoring the ph in my coco grows.
i havent done it yet but after reading this im on my way to check it now!

See I told ya @Bromeo was a coco guru. View attachment 555819The ph of coco can Flux on ya and keeping a daily check on ph until ypu get the hang of it is crucial in cutting off the problems before they start. Follow his advice and you'll be golden
thank you Atrain!:pass: i will def talk to him throughout this grow

yea i bought one of these before i started my first grow and its great! i figure if i cn spend $700 on a set up i can spend $60 or whatever it was on a good ph probe!

Raises or drops I do the same thing. A good rinse with a cleansing product and return to my regular feeding schedule. Or rinse with water till clean and return to my normal feeding schedule. If you start trying to make adjustments you might end up chasing your tail.

If your using a product like Coco Loco or something with buffering agents ignore all above reading. Just ph and go.
i ended up gettin botanicare coco grow does this have the buffering agents?

I agree that meters can help. And that would be the medium meter I would get. Just make sure you don't lean ontit too much. You'll learn to read the plant. The leaves and sheen and depth of color. Its magical. Just don't make any changes while tripin in the garden.
I didn't read the rwst of the thread. Hope this isn't out of par.

All caught ip now.
So, if I were using coco loco to grow plants ( I use it for other things) I would buy a meter. Cause it ain't consistent in quality for shit! Some times loads of fiber other times nothing but pith.
@Bromeo is correct in spending mor for better coco is worth it hands down. Iprefer loose washed coc to brick coco for the same reasons as coco loco.
Getting off the soap box.
