Recently a person wrote to me and said that auto's grown outdoors can be problematic as compared to that same strain done indoors. Whereas you might be able to get 3 ounces dried indoors, you're lucky if you get 1 ounce when growing it outside.

This person suggested it would be better to have a strain that was photo sensitive instead.

Is there any truth to this? Am I wasting my time thinking I can get a really early crop outdoors by growing a good yielding strain such as the albino dragon or think different? I am situated on the sunshine coast of British Columbia.

Cheers to all who reply back to this thread. :-)

In my opinion ,as it is with anything the amount of care you give them + conditions is the key factor for autos outside. In my experience ,the strains I have done ,both auto and photo, it seems a lot of the autos are more sensitive to change. In my area the weather is not stable enough for auto's outside as of late. Drastic temp swings have really messed up my yields and quality from outdoor autos last 2 years. The photo's seemed to handle it better without any drop in yield or quality. If your outdoor conditions stay within the tolerance of your strain they should be good.

How does a person know the tolerance of a strain though? Unless you've grown it outdoors before. I guess I answered my own question just then. The albino dragon as I understand is from dragon seeds at rcmc and it is possibly made by Mossy? So it should be usable outdoors in British Columbia? I am hoping that I will get some instructions from the people at dragon seeds when I order from them. I have emailed the person who I believe is Mossy but as yet I have not heard back.

From my very limited experience I have deduced that the result is always strain and environment dependent. What a genius:)

Really, I think for novice growers could be good to start with a hardy photoperiod plant and if conditions/space allows to have another couple of autos beside for relevant comparison.
This way can be see the main differences between them and one could find which growing plan best fits the grow area. Also the photos are more forgiving because have a long veg period.

I also think that autoflowering plants can be stellar if you care for them(like in a garden with daily care or in just good conditions OD) but they can also be disappointing if the used strains don't fit in the grow conditions(especially guerrilla growing). Like if you mess something up(and there is always plenty of chances) they get stunted and the outcome can be null.

So the best option is - have autos, photos and then add a superauto and an early photo to have full flowering time spectrum:D:

I havent read all the responses but IMO autos are changeing daily..the breeders are getting better at the genetics and making some really good autos that can be treated like photos and such,,after looking around at lots of different outdoor grows ..I would say find breeders that do their stuff outdoors like mossy, cres, and LBH...I see most of the ones done outdoor are leafey and not as much bud as in the indoor grow ..But If I was to do outdoor.I would go semi auto requires less light hours and go for 120 days they seem to give you more bud and benefit from the light cycle of the sun. This is just what i noticed .:tiphat::styles rasta:AFNlogo:karma Cloud:

Thanks Doobie. Can you suggest some strains for 120 days? I'm thinking if it's 120 days I'd rather go for some semi autos or feminized seeds. I only have 120 days for my outdoor season.

Im thinking that some of the fast strains they call them are really or also semi auto..maybe in breeding when they try to make a strain auto they get some that dont auto but are fast photo..so they breed them and call it semi auto or fast...Im really just guessing..I could be 100% off lol but I dont grow outdoor..LBH has a stain you get free with his Sour D haze or auto asian haze perfected for dutch weather called Eirdbei think its a 10 pack free. But It gets HUGE..take a look at the privat breaders section ..but im sure there are a few semi auto out there.:smokebuds:
