Veg Week 3
So its the end of week 3 and the girls are doing so well.

Slurricane #7 S1

Im getting excited for this one, structure is out of this world good. Node spacing just everything. Looking fantastic. Gave her .5 gallons of water with a tsp of fox farm microbe brew and a tsp of KMKY (kelp). Its a 1/2 dose for each so a very light feed and microbe/fungus boost for the root zone.

Forbidden Jelly

This one is starting to come around, leaves are not as pale as they were during the first 2 weeks. Also gave her .25 gallons of water with the same stuff as the Slurricane got. She's definitely gonna be smaller than the other. Node spacing is pretty tight and shes about 4 inches shorter than the Slurrican so you'd think she'd be stretching towards the light, but not so with her which is fine. Just making it a little more difficult to lst.

Thats all for today.

So I had a little extra money and the price has come down so I got the AC Infinity gen 2 oscillating clip on fan and damn this thing is nice! 10 speeds, but also 10 degrees of oscillation!?!?

I can't control the oscillating with my current controller but its not really needed now anyway. Now my stationary clip on is dedicated to the LED driver. The only thing I dont like is this thing sticks out twice as far into the tent and has half as much tilt. Other than that, Im thoroughly impressed

Looking over the tent this morning I found some desiccated spots on my leaves. Not brown or rust spots, spots that are sucked completely dry. Ordered some neem oil concentrate and Im gonna be spraying the girls down 1 time a week till Im sure everything is dead. Not sure if there are pests. Haven't seen anything but the occasional fungus gnats but something is sucking the sap out of the leaves. Will update this post later if I come across a bug that I haven't seen before.

Veg Week 4 New
My Slurricane #7 S1 is starting to have problems as well as the Forbidden Jelly. Not sure if its an imbalance or the plants are starting to get hungry. Since Im basically experimenting with this organic stuff I figured hungry. The instructions on the down to earth box says top dress once a month and this is about 1 week after that since I prepped my soil a week before I even dropped my beans.

The directions on the box say 1-2 tablespoons per gallon of medium per month, so what I did was mix up 7 tablespoons of the 4-4-4 along with 2 tablespoons of the 2-6-5. This may prove to be a mistake since the 2-6-5 has a higher p and k ratio, but it has the secondary and micro nutrients I think both plants are hungry for. Mixed in to the top inch or 2 of soil and watered it in with some liquid fox farm nutrients, very weak ones but I still added them to give the plants an immediately available source of sulphur/zinc. The Slurricane was showing signs of deficiencies of both along with a phosphorus deficiency. So I mixed in 2tsp of big bloom, and 2 tsp of microbe brew. The microbe brew added some microbes, zinc, copper and sulphur, and the big bloom gave some sulphur and a small bump of p and k.

Like I said Im not sure if what I an doing is the right thing. Im trying to read the plant to the best of my ability and respond accordingly. I probably should have taken pics but I'll upload some later. What Im seeing on the Slurricane is some necrotic spots popping up on the lower leaves they were kinda purplish before turning brown so I figured phosphorus deficiency, and up top the tips and margins are starting to get a little pale/yellow, and as far as I know thats either zinc or sulphur deficiency. It hasn't began on the Forbidden Jelly as much, the tips at the top are just starting to become pale but she looks like she is progressing the same as the slurricane, so hopefully what I did remedies the issue over the next 1-2 weeks.

So here's some pics, the overall plant amd the trouble Im seeing. Its all on the oldest and newest leaves which is what lead me to think hungry. Definitely not nitrogen starved but I think maybe other stuff. There is maybe too much N in the soil because the oldest leaves are also dark but they arent clawing and the stems aren't flimsy. I did do a quick check of my ph meter calibration and its dead on for the 2 setpoint calibration at 7 and 4. Im thinking of biting the bullet and getting a meter for the soil so I can test periodically. The grow star apera line is $180-200 the basic apera ph60s-e is $170. There's not much of a difference other than the grow star line is made specifically for soil whereas the ph60 line is made for general solid pH testing so I might spring for the grow star one when I get paid next Thursday. Im kind of sick of doing slurry tests.

Not really much to show here, she's a little droopy because technically she got over watered. She was still pretty heafty when I decided to recharge the food supply. Other than that just a few new leaves had tips that were starting to yellow and theres very minimal purplish splotches to take pics of. One other thing I thought about is the spring water I collect. Im still wondering if thats messing with the nutrient balance somehow.

Thought Id update. Ive topped all the branches at 5 nodes or more on the Slurricane. I think it was only 4 branches so far but Im trying to extend the veg period and fill out that side of the tent before I flip to flower. I want to do the same thing with the Forbidden Jelly but its staying so bushy and I know it has a very vigorous stretch period from my previous grow I may just focus on flattening it out with lst and controlling the stretch when it comes.

May end up using a net during this grow but Im not sure yet. The plan is to veg about 1 to 1.5 more months and then switch to flower.

You can see in the pics the brown spots have taken over on the leaves that are effected by it On the Slurricane #7 Its not really progressing up the plant so Im not really concerned. She keeps pumping out more vegetation and besides the spots the plant seems pretty vigorous.

I forgot to take the individual plant pics with my phone rotated so they are sideways again

I think the little boost of synthetic nutes from my leftover Fox Farm liquids helped out a bit.

The Forbidden Jelly Im leaving alone for now. When I go into defoliate next weekend I will open her up a bit, but she's too compact and bushy to do a 2nd round of topping in my opinion. No spots or anything popping up on this one yet. This is kinda why I think the synthetics helped out a bit. The tips that were gettong pale are basically gone now.

Over the next month Im just gonna really control the growth and amount of main colas sites on both plants. I wanna get as much out of these 2 plants and Ive been on this site for a while now and I have yet to get over a lb out of a whole tent amd I think in a 3x3 that shouldn't be too hard. Goals and what not. Anyway so far I think that I like the way the Down to Earth is performing. Plants are a little dark and the Slurricane is having an issue but overall everything is growing well enough. I think Im gonna look around and see if they have something a little weaker overall. For a veg because I do think some of the Slurricanes problem is a little to much N

Edit:
I looked for a different weaker veg line and I found this but it seems Amazon doesn't carry it

Vegan Mix 3-2-2 – Down To Earth Fertilizer https://share.google/YdEJMiGcrgboXA6mp

Its got the basics, a little weaker over all including the calcium content at 4%. The 4-4-4 im using right now is 8% which if Im not mistaken is a lot. So I might buy a 1lb box and try that out on my next grow.

Plants are starting to rebound a bit now they have gotten fairly larger.

The Slurricane #7 S1 is a real trooper, it handled the excess calcium like a champ. So far it hasn't progressed at all except the leaves that were already effected and that hasn't progressed much either.

The defoliation on the Forbidden Jelly seemed to help her out too. She was bushy. Seems like its a 50/50 main growth and side growth with her cut a lot of nodes off thr first few branches, and she's still pretty bushy.

20250903_113017.jpg

I still have a few newer leaves with pale tips but those are disappearing too. I think its because the Veggie Garden I chose has the npk and calcium and magnesium but nothing else, no sulphur or anything like that, I think mixing in the 2 tablespoons of the Flower Garden gave it the little bump of sulpher it needed.

I think Im going to switch up to the Vegan Mix for veg from this grow on. Waria warned me it might be a little hot and its got way too much calcium and not enough micro nutrients content. The Vegan Mix doesn't either but down to earth sells small boxes of micro and secondary nutes. So I think I'll just combo one with sulphur and the Vegan Mix and that should be good for veg. I looked it up and they have one that is basically just sulpher with a little bit of calcium and magnesium, I forget what its called.

Apart from that I will be topping the rest of the branches on the Slurricane this weekend amd give her a minor defoliation. She's not in need of it as bad as her node spacing is much greater than the Forbidden Jelly. Some nodes were less than ½ an inch apart on most branches and Im running the light weaker right now.
