Hey guys well first off can anyone recommend a good brand that will be sure to get the job done things are starting to smell. My question is if I have a tent with a 600w hood will the carbon filter help pull out more more air in general than i have it now just due to it's size? Right now air is just being pulled through the open end of the hood and temps are ok but was just curious if it would help with removing more hot air as well just due to the size of the filter itself. . here's a pic of how my setup is so u see how my hood is..

Thanks for any info guys:peace:

Get a rhino carbon filter buddy if your after a good brand. There are other cheap models but that will get the job done. Id just go with a 5" considering you already have a air cooled reflector. The filter will get rid of the smell for sure also yes it will exstract some of the hot air as long as it's attached to a exsaust.

What are your temps and tent size?

Carbon filter will add resistance to your air flow so theoretically less air will flow and less heat will be removed. How much less im not sure. I use a phresh filter. Went from stinky house to no smell at all until I stick my head in the tent.

I use a can filter myself.
as you can see there are many different brands and lots of opinions on which one is the best.
looks like you have a 6" hood I would get the biggest filter you can put in your room.
you will notice the difference immediately!!!! carbon filters kick ass and all smell issues will disappear like magic.
your girls look good by the way!

thanks for the help guys! so if i got a carbon filter i should expect my temps to increase due to less air flow and less heat being removed?

I don't know about heat actually decreasing im sure it would if u got a big enough filter, but all i know is when i turn my carbon filter/fan off it gets VERY hot and humid inside my tent.

When I replaced my filter and fan, to something that actually worked, my temps dropped significantly.

Just oversize it. If your tent is 4x4x7 tall, that's 112 cu. ft. Get a filter that's spec'd for something significantly larger. Like 220 cu. ft. (while keeping an eye on whether it will fit inside your tent. (You can also put the fan outside the tent to reduce space used?). Also use a larger fan. You can always use a rheostat device to dial down the speed to meet your temperature requirements.

You can also use a device like this Quantum Variable Speed Controller. With this device you can set the normal fan speed for necessary air replacement (so the air inside tent is replaced every 5 minutes. I.e., 25 cfm. But, this device will kick the fan up to full speed if the heat rises past your pre-set threshold.).

Side note: I like to use a variac ($50 US) which reduces the voltage (instead of clipping the sine wave, like these less expensive controllers). The fan runs quieter. I've read fans last longer with clean voltage like this too.

If you or someone you know is good with electronics, it should be possible to wire a variac to a thermostatic switch in a way that when the switch is off (below the preset temperature), the variac sends something like 50 volts to the fan (slow speed). When the switch is on, it sends full 110 volt (high speed) to the fan, bypassing the variac. It should just be a matter of diodes to block the direction of electricity. Maybe a relay.

Someday I'd like to work this out because I really prefer using a variac instead of a simple wave-clipping device which I'm pretty sure the Quantum is. The wave clippers are like switching the fan off/on 60 times a minute (for micro- to milliseconds depending on how slow the fan is desired to run).

If you have a garden supply store in your town I would talk to them about it.
guys in my town had answers to all my questions and set me up.
Put your fan outside your room hand it with bungee cords.
