Thanks guys. The guy who got that big one freaked when he opened it and saw that his whole oz. was mostly one big bud.

I feed that batch of Mi5 veg nutes through week 5. On my next grow I'm going to follow Stitch's suggestion and feed veg nutes through week six. From weeks 3-5 those plants were growing at a rate of 1" + per day and were about 20" tall when I switched to flower nutes. If that same accelerated growth continues for another week and adds another 6-7" to the overall height I'm expecting the yield to increase to around 3 oz. per plant.

I believe you are correct about how the market will evolve. The irony is that it's growing weed that is fueling a lot of the research into targeted spectrum growing. While I'm sure there are big corporations and government agencies doing research, a lot of it is being done by small companies that know there is a market with us growers. The guy who designed mine is a grower himself.

I believe they balance the light not only by the combination of different spectra they use, but also by how much they power the lights. I've got an email out to the people at GLH to see if I can some more detailed technical information.

If you had the money to lay out I guess you could make a buck. Interesting to see what they are selling because that's probably the same items that a lot of other eBay and internet dealers are selling. They actually have a couple things that looked interesting.

Here is the most informative link I have ever found from an actual grower about the truth about LED's and what type should be used and how many for maximum yield. I dont put much stock into every web site that sells them and their botanists opinons on spectrum and wattage. This site will give you a good idea of what you are looking for to get the same results. Its an excellent read. If you can take what you learn there you will know what to look for when making a purchase elsewhere.

My buddy gets LED's wholesale and been working with them since they come out. Once he gets the money to buy a nice unit he plans on taking it apart so he can see the design. He plans on constructing his own at a much cheaper rate. If anyone has a nice big panel and wants to open it up and show pics, that would give us a jump on how to construct some nice units. If everything works out right we will have some nice units for sale at a very discounted rate. Thanks for help if anyone can.

for the most part what your looking at with led construction is a power supply, voltage drivers, and your diodes. then theres heat sinks and fans, but that depends on how hard you drive your leds. you sacrifice power with lower voltage, but with more voltage comes more heat. most leds will be operating at their most efficient output at about half of the rated maximum current, where you will effectively find a sweet spot for longer life/light output per watt, while minimizing the heat load that you have to manage. id recommend some of the osram diodes. the variables to play around with come down to the voltage drive, density of diodes, and color spectrum selection. also as many have stated before me im sure, you'll end up looking a lot at the placement of the diodes in conjunction to the plants that you're growing.

Thanks for he input direhit. Unfortunately I haven't even ordered my LED's yet. Might be a couple weeks before i order. I bet it takes a month or month and a half before they arrive. Project is still going to happen just had to straighten out my finances first.
