New Grower Cheap organic grow journal - starter kit

1 week old pics (as of yesterday).

One small difference I have found is that the larger felt pot had dried out and I had to water, but the small plastic pot is still fine. I assume this is evaporation - is there anything I can do to reduce evaporation? or should I just water more often but cut down the nutes?

I would just water as needed without adjusting the nutes, she can take the nutrients. I am afraid the increase in work is the price you pay when using cloth or air pots. trust me the extra yield is worth it

morning all.. latest pics she is about 12 days old now (the one in the felt pot).

She has grown a lot since yesterday, suspect she is starting her above soil growth spurt now - I was slightly worried that she was a bit small for her age yesterday.

She still has plenty of water in the soil - not sure what happened last week, probably just user error and didn't water enough last time.

The SS in the corner is growing nicely - probably going to give it another week or two before she goes in the bin "cry".

My lights are still the 125w blue CFL on 24/0 schedule - temps are between 18c and 21c - I will probably give it another week or two and then put up the 250w red cfl; once it starts getting colder into October I will gradually put 4 30w CFL's around the sides. Overkill for one plant, but its either increase the lights to keep her warm or waste wattage on heaters.

I wouldn't mind help on a couple of questions;

  • I am going away for 4 nights, but the SC does not need watering right now, but I think it will when I am away; should I just lightly water before I go (i.e. 1/2 liter or so) to top her up, or just leave her to get bone dry?
  • The leaves look slightly twisted - I assumed this is because the soil is probably slightly too hot for the sprout-lings; my plan is to just ride it out (no choice really)
many many thanks for looking.

I think you should water just before you leave so you know they will survive till you get back.

I read were someone used one of those glass or plastic auto watering bulbs. just for a few days when they went away and said it worked pretty good.

day 19 update. She has grown loads since last week, looking very stocky - branches feel real firm. I am not 100% happy with the look of the leaves, there is some distortion at the base of leaves, I suspect this is probably a slight PH issues (since both plants have it). My bloody PH pen is talking its time arriving (nearly 30 days, so ordered a different one yesterday), so I cant check run off; however the soil is registering about 6.9 and I know my water is on the low PH side - so I really want to check the run off. I haven't watered at all since prior to going away and the SC looks like she will go another 4 days at least without watering, the SS maybe needs watering tomorrow. I have decided to keep growing the SS and will only bin it if the SC starts aggressively spreading out.

What browser are you using dregba? I've tried it on IE, Firefox & Safari and it seems to be working okay for me?
