I was reading about chloramine and chlorine so what is the truth ? What I read was that chloramine doesn’t evaporate like chlorine. I also read that it isn’t harmful like chlorine when it comes to beneficial bacteria. Is there a need to buy a filter to filter it out ?

My second question is ro/di. I again I am reading conflicting articles and posts. Some say ro/di isn’t good to use on cannabis and then I read some articles saying it was ok. Now I’m confused on what to buy to filter my water.

My tap reads TDS 157 and ph is 7

Chloramine can be neutralized by ascorbic acid, vitamin C.
Use 40 mg vitamin C per gallon of tap.

Either reverse osmosis or distilled water is best.
Trying tap (ppm500=190) failed last grow, producing unhealthy plants, so I went back to RO water.
I've also used distilled, which is best, but more expensive.

Your tap readings are fine . Ive used tap for 10 years no problem ( mine is anywhere from from 130-160 depending on day) and ph between 7.7.2
R/O and distilled are the best but$$. r/o cost around 200 for a slow unit and filter changes ( usually 5 or more filters) are necessary often. You and I are lucky to have good tap water, many don't and don't have a choice but to use r/o. Also rain water collection is great if you live where there is reasonable rainfall amounts. Also check with your county or city Department of Public Works to see if they use chlorine or chloramine. Cheers Chef

Thanks ! Yeah I was told my tap was good. I was planing to buy a unit for the house but I think I will just set up one of my diy filtration with carbon.

Also where I live it barely rains lol I wish it rained more because I wanted a rain catch system for a while. I may run one off gutters ( I badly need to put on my house)

I have the same problem. Been using Distilled water for a year now. It's worked fine so far but I'm trying to adjust from using kindsoil to start using nutes (Mega Crop ). As I think I will be using more water with Nutes. So I was trying to figure out what is my best option for water. My tap, Distilled ,or RO is my top 3 choices.

My tap water is 9.1 ph. I have PH down but I read some saying PH down is a harsh chemical. Is there a better or less harsh option to lower my PH? Also 2 years ago the news people were saying my cities water has some of the highest in the nation Chromium 6 (also known as Erin Brockovich chemical lol). Was thinking of a filter for my tap, to remove the chromium 6, if possible. But then I still will have to lower the PH.

RO water, sounds interesting. I seen some cheap RO systems on Amazon under $100. They look kinda complicated from the pics. And I have no idea what the PH will be after I run it thru the system. Anybody know what the ph of RO water is?

Distilled feels like the better choice for my situation, I guess lol. I know it works for my plants.

Tap here is 330 ppm... 200 is salt... causes issues around week 6..RO was the answer.

Pure RO will be hard to test... but should be right @ 7.0. I add a little cal mag and I'm right on my [HASHTAG]#s[/HASHTAG]. Nutes added require a little ph up. I use Olympus up.. ionized limestone.

RO system outside faucet... 5 gallon bottles... easier to carry 5 gallons in than 30 out.

I posted above about my failure with tap water.
RO water is pretty easy to do if you have a drain near your grow setup.
Here's exactly what to do:
(1) Get an RO system. Here's what I've got http://www.purewaterclub.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=95&products_id=246
(2) Buy a large tub to hold the ro water, at least 10 gal.
(3) Get a portable pump Amazon product ASIN B00X3YGHH0(4) Buy several jugs of <$1 distilled water. Those jugs can hold known amounts of ro water.
About 2 hours will fill a 15 gal tub, and then the pump can be used to fill empty jugs.

Municipalities play around with pH of their water to preserve water pipes, so its pH is usually 7-9.
Mine recently and magically went from above 9 to 7.0

pH up/dn are the very best way to adjust pH without adding too much unwanted stuff.

Thanks for the info. I've been thinking of going with RO water but I don't think I need that much water a day. I have a small grow compared to most on this site( atleast it seems that way). I use about a 1-2 gallons a week on average. But I may need more in the near future , if mmj passes I will be expanding my grow. It's up for vote this month, fingers crossed lol. So the system you linked maybe just what I need.

Am I looking at the price right? Around $67? That's a great price!

I read that Municipalities play with the PH before. Adjust it according to the season, I believe. I have been checking my Tap's PH several times thru the year and seems to be consistantly 9.1. Maybe the seasons haven't been extreme enough for them to change it here? Lol I don't know.

If I only used 1-2 gallons per week, I'd probably just buy distilled at walmart for $0.90 per gallon.

Yes, that cheap price is correct.

Yeah, I think that's the best option. Hopefully MMJ passes in my state and I will be expanding my grow in a month. And the RO water maybe will then make more sense to me than it does currently.

Thanks for the help.
