Hey guys just wanting to get a quick bit of info and advice for my next grow, Im using normal soil at the mo, but want to use the coco coir method rather than soil as so I can start using my nutrients (plant magic old timers grow, bloom & cal mag) early, as been unable to use nutes with the soil I have now, as hassome in already and kept getting nute burn, even though I was lowering dosage, now they just on plain water, but wanted to no best setup for it.

On another thread I put up last week, someone mentioned that Wilkinson’s has coco coir for £4 a bag so was thinking getting them, plus need some perlite, where’s best to buy that? And some clay plebbles?

Any info and advice much appreciate, I no it’s short notice but going out tomorrow to buy the stuff, guessing perlite and pebbles I can get from garden Center? (Don’t really want to buy online this time, as want to get soon as possible as to start my next grow as on week 8 now of my present grow).

If money is an issue you can get by with just the Coco. It is good in my opinion to add in some perlite, it helps you get a quicker start as the roots have more air and you can water more frequently. For Pebbles I think the only place they need to be used as right on top. They need to be washed thoroughly over and over because they are very alkaline and control off the pH of your medium. The main reason I use the Pebbles on top is to keep out bugs that have a larva stage down in the Coco and it helps to add a little bit more air to your nutrients as the water Cascades over the Pebbles.

So you could start off with only Coco, or you can mix Coco and perlite and go with that. Or you can add a couple inches of clay Pebbles on top. I generally do all three.

Be very careful though using Coco and perlite, if you don't have much space and you have XXL seeds. Plants tend to get a lot bigger in Coco.

You will need a pH meter and an EC pen if you want to do Coco. You may not use the ecpm much once you get a little experience but you'll fall back on that pH meter quite a bit. Unfortunately, the little dipstick type things don't really work well for growing cannabis.

Ok cheers I have a ph pen and keep my ph levels Intack, I have been looking into getting a ec pen, which I will get next week, I’m going to be using 12litre pots so plenty room, their should be, I’m unsure if seeds are XXL just white widow auto from gorilla seeds, I understand the idea of having pebbles on the top, I understand having them in the bottom u are able to leave your pots in the run of, so then the roots won’t sit in the run of water, but I have mine raised anyway so that’s won’t be problem m, cheers for info

I haven't grown White Widow from that seed company, but they tend to be quite large from just about any Seed Company. I grew one from zambeza in a 3 gallon hard-sided pot, because I wanted it to be smaller I usually use a 5-gallon felt pot, it's still grew over 40 in tall and weigh more than a pound at Harvest.

I have a journey going in the autoflower network, the pots I’m using at the mo are only 4litre very small I no, but for my next I have 12litre pots so will defo triple my crop from this current one, but yours theirs is a monster, that’s what I’m hopping with my next grow, so was trying to find out which to go with soil again as I’ve been doing or try the coco method

Ok cheers for advice and info I just picked all this up in Wilkinson’s for £22, weather I will add perlite or not, I’m unsure yet but got couple bags as £5 a bag, think I will go the coco coir route my next grow as want to start using nutes as soon as I can, but hopefully this is the right coco coir stuff (it’s in a big block) as their was another one their but said it has slow realising nutrients so didnt get(last pic)

Hello guys just an update for u on me coco coir block I had

Well that wasn’t an easy job I can tell u, I cleaned out a couple of me recycling boxes and put the block in(tried to saw it in half but think saw was blunt lol)
So first of all I put 6l water in and not much happened so added another 6litres of water with a ph of between 5.5-6.2 I could then start to break some of it up, and in the Center still dry as hell, takes ages to proper penetrate the middle, so I added another 6”litres of ph water, I then got me hands stick in and tried moving it all about as to get the water evenly distributed between the coco,

So that’s 18litres water I’ve added and still quiet a few lumps about with dry bits in the middle, so again add another 6litres of water and really get stuck in and move all about, I then left for about 15 mind and then tipped into another recycling box as to get the wet soggy stuff on the bottom to now sit on the top and seep through the rest.

At this point I thought I’ll read the instructions, duh me it only says to add 12litres of water and leave 15mins, so I’ve not give double but to be honest it’s not all that bad, I’m now going to leave for a bit for the water to sleep through the whole lot, and then I have a 10litre bag of perlite that I will add in to the coco coir and the. Distribute between my 3 12litre pots

Damn, sorry I wasn't watching this thread a little bit closer. I really like those blocks of Coco because you know you're not getting any bugs or any larva or anyting when you get them all compressed like that. You almost always get all the bug problems from the big bags of soil and stuff like that at your local Hydro shop.

I put mine in a about a, I guess it's about a, 20 gallon tub kind of about the size you had. And I just put two three liters of water in wait a couple hours come back flip block over put a couple more liters in. I keep that up until I've got a relatively dry mix that I can separate well with my hands. I actually use a little bit less water than what my instructions recommend.

After I get everything all mixed I put my perlite in and put that all into my pots. I like to pre-charge my Coco with a little bit of Cal Mag and a very very weak solution of my nutrients. Sometimes I get seedlings that start so fast that they can quickly outgrow the stores they have in their first leaves. At that point I usually poor almost as much water through it as the pot is rated at, just to make sure that I wash out any salts that might have been left in the Coco.
