Hi peeps
im 11 days in to my 2nd grow. Gave the girls a drink today and noticed some perlite was a very lime green. I’m using eco thrive lite 70/30 with 1% charge pre mixed. Tried taking pics but it wasn’t picking it up on camera will have another go soon. It’s definitely not due to my coco being to wet, I don’t let that happen, the green doesn’t come off when I rub it and it’s not on the top surface of coco it’s just slightly lower than the surface, I’m pretty sure it’s not algae, I may be wrong. Could it be anything to do with the charge that’s in it? Any ideas peeps? Sorry for lack of photo , will try again now. P.s the plants don’t seem to be suffering , they seem very happy and plodding along nicely , but this could be the start of something ugly.
cheers

After a little research I think it maybe algae lmao. Due to lights on constant. the green did rub off when I scratched over it, very light and powdery.

She seems healthy so far.

Perlite is volcanic glass that is heated up and puffs up like popcorn. It has tiny cells on the surface that retain water. So with light, fertilizer, and water it is a good place for algae to grow.
It will not hurt the plants.

cheers bud, will it keep getting worse, or stop when plant gets bigger and creates cover?

haha, you coco will get daaaaark dark brown, compact down a lot, you pot will get salty and maybe even develop it's own language seing as you're using cloth pots, there's gonna be salt flats and algae in your runoff tray.. it's gonna be a good bit of scrubbing for your next grow.

but alas, i've gotten myself a cloth pot again for my next round.. they do just work best.

So does it need sorting out, or can it be left as it is?

I cover my coco with cardboard to stop the algea from growing. Also helps keep coco moister at first. I remove it once plant is bigger.
Cheers,
