Lighting Dark Hours - Complete darkness?

in the fall and spring I go 18/6, winter 24/0 and this is my first summer and it looks to be 16/8 maybe even 12/12, all due to being in the garage with no real climate control. nothing wrong with the HID, and nothing is the best to all people. I went with LED over heat concerns and cant complain about the results. I just grow for myself also and don't need massive yields.not to say I don't get yields with LED. I've been averaging 2oz a plant so far and don't sweat the $ spent. after awhile the money you save from buying street crap will pay you back tenfold. and you'll grow better smoke than they will ever get. and if your anything like me, you'll spend your savings on upgrades LOL
10-4 Els...although i have a few more questions (as usual lol) By limiting your light hours are you now limiting your plants food...i was thinking light = food. Also my electric billed went up almost $100 in one month with everything going and I am just now starting my A/C all day due to summer heat...$400+ a month...i need to get this back down to around 250-300 and i feel as if the LEDs will be a huge help??? *Yes this is for myself but i really enjoy bouncing around strains as i usually have on hand 4-5 different strains not the street kind its all dispensary...but im avg $175 wk in cannabis use...savings will def go to upgrades!!! Thanks

Hey sirus, I only have a couple of grows under my belt but I noticed a decent difference in my electirc bill even when I went from CFL's ( I had a bunch :)) to LEDs. Also some of the LEDs are as cheap or cheaper than an HID set up. It depends on what you are looking for in yield and number of plantsyou are growing. I have said it before but if you are just growing for yourself (1-4 plants) LEDs are the only way to go. Check out some of the mars-hydro lights on ebay and their web site. Get a a grow or two under your belt and you will be way ahead as far as costs savings from purchasing on the street.

Sharing one my friend.

Thanks! Yes i am heading in that direction since my grows are for myself. Yield is not that big of an issue as long as it covers my use and i don't have to buy anymore. Mars Hydro LED lights i even LOVE the name...definitely buying for next grows. I agree get a few grows first! Appreciate the direction!

hey B. I started growing when my son finally moved out and haven't seen any significant rise in my electric bill. but without his tv and xbox it evened out I guess. actually I believe it went down a little. lol. I went with the mars-hydro 96x3w reflector model and absolutely love it. the veg and bloom switch save you some more during veg. it fits my 36x19in tent footprint pretty well. and only $164 USD with free delivery in the states. and I feed the same no mater the light schedule.
