Yeah, packaging is pretty chintzy....I can't imagine the profit margin on these things...must cost $3 to produce.
But it measures soil Ph and it isn't a $250 dollar digital probe.
That's the same packaging and dial face as I received when I ordered mine from horticulturesource.
Be sure to wipe the probe surface before each reading. The enclosed whetting cloth doesn't last long. Muddy suggested using 0000 steel wool. Muddy also said to give it 10 minutes for a final reading. (That may be in the instructions, I forget.).
I'm still not sure if this is more accurate than measuring runoff. I often get different results from those two methods.
What I find useful about the probe that isn't intrinsic to the runoff method is Ph readings at different depths of the soil...allows me to read top and bottom and see what kind of nute build up I'm getting down below.
