New Grower Do AutoFlowers need sleep ?

I am wondering this is my 2nd grow I always left the lights on for 24/0 but i tried to let them sleep 6 hours last night and i noticed the hairs turning brown quicker. Or maybe its just an illusion?

Do autoflowers need rest? Do they produce more during sleep time? Can I run it 24/0 (I have Large CFL lamps around 600W total)

I heard lots of growers do 20/4 but is it so the plants can rest or to save energy?

some people will say yes , and they will give reasons like plants grow more in the dark blah blah blah , but cannabis is in the C familly that doesnt need dark unless flowering , but as we know , autos dont need dark to flower

so short answer , if it is a stable auto , NO

The plant's photosynthetic rate determines its growth rate because the sugars are used by the plant to build tissue and for energy. Cannabis under continuous light will grow 33% faster than the same plants on an 18-6 light regime.

So you say 24/0 is better than 20/4 (aside from energysaving?) Do you run 24/0?

i do in fact run 24/0 , i have done 18/6 as well as 20/4 , however i like to run 24/0 due to my vegging photo plants , when they veg at 24/0 they seem to transition into flowering faster when put on 12/12 then the plants that vegged at 18/6

if i were to only grow autos i believe i would go with 19/5 just to save a bit of money on electricity because i run ,,,,,, well lets just say i run far more then one hid light

yield loss would be very minimal

The botanical literature agrees with Bob.

Although C3 plants do well with less powerful lighting due to how they fix carbon.

When i say less powerful light i mean not growing in the sahara desert.

Having said that there is some great weed growing in Africa.

I've tried 20/4 and 18/6 and not noticed any difference at all, and plenty of people grow autos 24/0 all the way through.

Others grow 24/0 veg then change the ratio during flowering.

So it's really up to you, they don't need the darkness, but i like to give them a little coz that's what they are genetically 'used to', but plants are amazing adapters.

Just to add a thought.

The autos originate in areas where the days get long--extreme north in Russia.

Environmental stress, apparently, caused genetic/hormones to adapt.

Photo strains have a flowering hormone that is activated after a particular change in light/dark period. We all know that.

So no dark period is needed to activate flowering.

Sixteen to 24 hours of light is a personal preference. Breeders also have their own preference and often suggest--what they use. That is where the confusion arises. See the breeders descriptions at Weedfinders. Some suggest 16 hours and other will say just let it go 24/7. It is just preference--though, the breeders know because they grow so many. Differences are probably marginal per the short 70+ days of growing.
