I ran a couple of autos with just overhead lighting (no box, just the plants under the light) until they went in my greenhouse and they ended up fairly lanky. Some details and pics here https://www.autoflower.org/f35/hola-afn-41923.html
For a while the light was definitely too far away, but I remedied that and they still didn't get much bushier. I'm thinking some additional side lighting might help that?

I've got two more seedlings going now and heading down to the hardware store to grab some clamp lights and 6500K CFLs.

If there done vegging more light won't make them bushier but it will help with bud development. It can't hurt to put more side lights.Any added light can only help your plant.

Yeah the first two are near harvest, but the new ones are only a couple weeks old.

I agree with namvet25. Light closer to the baby's during veg will give you nice bushy plants tho. But they will stretch in flower a lil bit depending on light intensity.

Thanks!

I'm on my second grow and they seem to be staying short at 2 weeks in. The overhead light is about 1" from the tops of the plants, that definitely seems to have helped.

i got a tfive 4 8 bulb 4 ft i sum times have the lights 10 inches above plants just moved them down to 2 inches but im getting some bushy plants if there getting lanky is cuz ur lights arent strong enough

Ah, I think it was a combination of low light and light being too high. Thanks all!
