I've moved the light to the side pointing diagonally over the plant to give the lower bud sites more light and rotate the plant every day. I've been using this regimen for the last 3 days and the plant seems to like it.

Tell me more. I always thought defoliation was a controversial and taboo thing. What are the rules? I've done tucking here and there and have actually defoliated at the bottom, where the first leaves have yellowed and died.

Just take a handful of the most light obscuring leaves away,I stand over the plant to judge the best to remove,also leave half the stem if you do cut the leaves off. Have a look at my Sour Hound grow,both of those got a good hair cut. Props on the light angle too I'm a fan on doing it myself.
