I'm going to sum up some of the errors from my first grow in this post and then it will be my jounal for my second grow.
While I was gathering what I needed for my first grow I saw the solo cup grow and had to play. I put a CDLC and sour livers in a paper towel and tried to find root organics locally with no luck. I wound up with inch long tails going in Walmart dirt. The dirt was crap that didn't drain, when the livers didn't break the surface in 3 days I went digging and found it trapped under a piece of bark with a set of yellow leaves. CDLC grew slowly and livers got about 4 inches tall and refused to grow any more. Gnats were on the soil for a couple of days but I didn't realize the importance of it. While outside getting some sun the livers was attacked by a cat. I found it laying on the ground no pulse it was dead. The best thing to do was throw them out and start over, went to bed medicated and digusted. Tang's easy schedule come to me in a dream. AN pH perfect so don't worry about pH try to follow the schedule if the leaves turn yellow give it more if you burn leaves give less. It a!so works in hydro so enough air and you can't over water. Plus when I screw up in 5 min I can have them in straight water while I figure out what I did wrong. If you think this sounds to simple to mess up you're underestimating me.
I have to take a break because my team is playing football right now. Go saints! After the game I'll tell you how a broke redneck does DWC. Hold my beer and watch this. Under no circumstances should you ever try this at home.

I don't know what I did wrong it says completed by my thread. How do I fix it? I was typing during commercials during the game and messed up hitting the create thread button. Good game. Geaux saints!

Moron moment but I figured it out and fixed it. Back to the grow. I couldn't bring myself to kill the plants as long as there was any sign of green. I may be the weak link but I wasn't giving up if the girls didn't. At this point I had basically killed the livers 3 times and severely stunted the CDLC. Having made all the rookie mistakes in soil it was time for DWC. I spent what little money I had on what I needed for Tang's schedule and a air pump. Time to get redneck I made a net pot out of a yogurt cup filled with gravel out the driveway and a rez out of a plastic coffee can that holds about two liters. I transplanted what was left of the livers with a little of the dirt so I didn't destroy what few roots I had left and put them under 2 screw in leds on my nightstand for house plants. Forget yeild and how long it takes I'm struggling with day to day survival. Had the light to close and burned leaves and what's that foul smell? Great I now have 1 1/2 leaflets and no root system from root rot. The sound of the air bubbling reminded me of life support. Washed the roots out on the CDLC transplanted it. Most of the leaves turned yellow and died. Yeah I'm off to a good start on DWC. I didn't have any type of meter so I started off with weak nutes and increased till I liked the color. Use the force and the plants will tell u what they need. Only thing they said to me was you're killing me. After a week they started growing leaves and looking much better.
Sorry about the long posts but it's hard to codense a grow into a few posts especially when I list my mistakes.
Thx c@b420 we had to say maybe next year a bunch of times.
I'll be back to finish the story after a smoke break.

I'm back to bore you some more. I spent a while learning to read colors pale is to little nutes and pale green pistils is definitely too much. I tried some bondage on the livers to try to get more tops before she went into flower and it worked big time. Things got overcrowded I was leave tucking 3 and 4 leaves deep wherever I could find room but resorted to defoil when it started getting wet between the leaves. Towards the end I discovered root munching monsters (gnats) that had probably been there most of the grow. Mesquito dunks to the rescue. I increased the lighting and things went much better till I had AC problems. The leaves started turning yellow on the livers so I cut it. I had already took down the CLDC because it was ready.
Next post my opinion of the plants and finally on to the second grow.

Google says we don't have a official village idiot so I'm claiming the title. Anyone want to question my qualifications? My first official act is to give Mephisto a idiot proof rating. Despite my best efforts to kill them both plants survived and produced something. The livers wound up 15 by 18 inches and a foot tall it produced 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 ounces of average smoke. The CDLC the 8 inch wonder it didn't have the sour d smell I was hoping for but it more than made up for it with a sweet exotic spice smell that I love and was frosty. I may have only got a 1/4 to a 1/2 but it was so good.
Props to Mephisto for producing the 2 toughest bitches I ever saw. I had aa major delay do to security issues from the family herion addict staying next door for a while but today I'm going to pick out a cheap pH and ec meter on eBay and do it again. My journal will be in this thread. I hope the bud gods protect me from my own ignorance.

I will give you some of the best advice you can get. Stop trying to be so cheap. Grow supplies are not expensive and plentiful these days. You already have the nutes. Get rid of your bugs first and foremost. Buy some Quality medium, I prefer Coco. Don't go to Walmart for medium. If you do DWC, use quality water. Sometimes trying to save a few bucks up front will cost you way more in the long run. Learn from your mistakes, but more importantly make better choices. You can choose to improve by investing in better medium and making sure you are bug free. Good luck.

Thanks @slowandeasy for some excellent advice. You have some impressive grows in coco. I needed soil right then to get in the solo cup comp and I wanted to play real bad so I went to Walmart rookie mistake. I learned from it and went to AN nutes and distilled water. My problem is I have nerve damage in my leg and am in the slow process of getting disability so cheap has to be a way of life for me. I'm doing the best I can with what I have to work with. Seeing gnats and not knowing I would have larvae in the roots was another rookie mistake. What do y'all use for a intake filter to keep bugs out?

Best advice to control gnats... don’t over water, allow your medium to go through wet/dry cycles and never leave standing water in run off trays, bottom of tent etc. Don’t make it easy for them. Use an in-line fan with filter and at least passive air intake. Keep your space neat and clean. It’s all a learning experience but getting a good setup in the early days allows for a better chance of quality harvest. Have fun and happy growing!
