Mephisto Genetics Drjkl's comedy of errors

Canna Coco bricks are pretty cheap. I like them a lot. And you can reuse it in multiple grows. So I think it's pretty darn cheap from a cost per grow perspective. And being a chronic over watering guru who has had gnat issues in the past I like coco for its drainage and ability to dry fast. I've done peat in HP promix in multiple grows, soil once and coco a couple of times. Coco to me is the best medium for a guy like me. It took me a long time and trials and lots of errors to come to the conclusion that coco is a great medium. And its cheap! @slowandeasy told me coco was the best a long time ago, and I finally understand that.

I wholeheartedly agree! :hump:

My first 5 grows were in soil and I never harvested more than 1 1/2 ozs per plant, (most were less than an oz! My 1st grow using coco was 3 plants that nearly weighed a pound. 1 plant liked a few grams from being 1/2 lb! Next grow was an AvT and 3 Bears. I has a cal/mag issue with one, and still pulled 2 1/2 ozs off the 3 Bears, The AvT came in exactly at 1/2 lb!
Coco is the shit!!! :headbang:

Wow. that is quite the results just by switching to coco. I just started to use it again on Sunday with 10 plants in solo cups and they look so much better than my last attempts already. They popped up in a day which is fast for me. And nice fuzzy thick stems. And fast to first set of real leaves. Hopefully a sign of good things to come. I grow for quality over quantity. Me and my friends cant consume everything I grow. But to me if you're growing good quality flowers then the plants will be big. Except if you're growing in a PC box or purposefully stunting plants. If this turns out good, I'll be a born again coco grower! :smoking:

Things I like about DWC are being able to adjust nutes with ec and seeing the roots the rest not so much. Big bags of soil are a problem for me. I think I'm going to find me some noob guides to coco to read and see what I think

Here was my cheap experiment and these are rough estimates...you might be able to find these things cheaper or more expensive. Some folks don’t like this method of growing, but it works well:

1.) Black 5 gallon bucket $3.50 (Home Depot)
2.) 6” net pot lid for said 5 gallon bucket $2.50 (hydroponics shop)
3.) Air pump for 1 bucket $12.00 (hydroponics shop)
4.) Air tubing for said air pump $1.50 (hydroponics shop)
5.) Hydroton $4.00 (hydroponics shop)
6.) Hydroguard $25.00 (hydroponics shop)

EDIT: I forgot 7.) Small air stone $3.50 (hydroponics shop)
You have everything else.

So far, this little setup is growing a monster in my tent.

I was making post in this thread. I have a new tablet so operator error is a real possibility

Tried making a few posts without luck. Hope I don't have six of them show up at the same time.
@mcpd_refugee you are killing it with the dg !
Thank you, dude. I appreciate the encouragement. It’s just a little experiment to see if I like growing in DWC. I’d say it’s going OK so far. We’ll reserve judgment to see how she finishes off.

It looks like I have solved my problems posting on my tablet so I'm going to bring this up to date. I enjoyed my pathetic little grow so I'm going to do it again and try to make good choices for the long term. I have a 4x2 foot cabinet, cut holes for intake and exhaust and I'm good to go. I also have a small computer room with it's own heat and air for better control of the environment. I have to build a cab there but I think it's spend the money now or always wish I had. My goals for this time are a decent cab with good filtration and a dehumidifier before flowering. Things are kinda on hold while I struggle with a intake filter design to keep pest out without too much restriction. Will intake filters for a car work? Idk yet but I think it's better to lose a few days doing research than make a mistake that will bite me on the ass later
