My city water runs around 300 ppm. If I want to target 700 ppm with my res feed, do i have to step down on my nutes and the amount recommended per volume?

Ignore the first 300 ppm.
If you want 700 ppm, then add nutes til it's 1000.

Thank you sir. Appreciate you taking the time to answer what has probably been asked many times before and pretty mundane. I can't wait to mix up my first batch and turn on the autopots. Been planning this for a while.

@Simplicio

ok bro I mixed up a batch today for hand watering. I did a 50/50 of my tap water (300 ppm) and some bottled RO water. metered at 100 ppm for a 3 liter batch. Then I added my mag/cal and silica and micro/grow etc using the right amounts. I used a hand blender to mix after adding each product. Then tested ppm and it was 100 ppm still. How could that happen? I have to assume my meter is fine. It's new. And it measure 100 before I added the nutes (Remo).

has it changed to e/c setting? ive been caught out that way plenty times. your water must have some amount of nonesense in it like mines is only 60.

My meter only does TDS PPM so it's not that.

The water around here is glacier fed so there's lots of minerals. At least it has a good ratio of Cal vs Mag. And I can cut it down with cheap RO bottled water. I don't mind the water here for growing. But it is hard on appliances.

maybe it needs rinsed with distilled, or calibration. You may need a second meter to test against.

Yes, could be I should have rinsed it. I just shook the water off it between first and second test. That's probably the reason. Thanks.

i just bought bottled water and googled what ppm it was. made sure my metre was fine then checked the tap water. easiest way to make sure its always spot on : )

the same thing happened again when I made up another batch.

First I metered distilled bottled water which was 1-2 ppm.

Then I metered my water before nutes and it was 100 ppm.

Then I rinsed the meter.

Then I added my nutes and tested and it was 100 ppm.

Rinses again and retested both my nute feed water and distilled water for a double check and it was the same.

So I"m adding Remo nutes to 100 ppm water and the ppm is not increasing in a 3 liter batch. I will probably phone Remo on Monday.
