Evol Organics

I read that if you bake something after its done before the oven cools put the antler in after several heating cycles it becomes brittle and is easier to turn to dust

Haven't tried it but have an old 8 pt I might try it with

Currently I'm using ewc mixed with pro mix and for nutes it's blood meal for N bone meal for P hickory ash for K and eggshell dust and molasses a couple times and can't believe I'm getting just as good a yields

I do put the antler in the oven for about an hour at around 250 but it is still difficult.

I have used a similar soil mix with good results but imo they can always get better. Even by changing the source of the ingredients you can get better/worse results.
I hope the castings my worms produce work better then the ones I used to buy. Im going for high chiten castings

Well I call it ewc but what it is  is a 30 ft pile 5 ft thick at the top probably 10 ft or better at the bottom of the hill and 40 ft long behind the barn that was at one time a pile of horse apples

are you feeding the bedding and/or the worms a special kinda diet to achieve the higher chitin ?

Yep. A lot of ground up " powdered" crabshell, eggshell, Some coffee grounds (looking for a source for more), and cornmeal. They LOVE cornmeal they would probably eat anything I mix into the cornmeal.
The crabshell is the key to the chiten...but im sure you know that.

I wish I had room in my yard for that. My wife made us move back to the city so im an urban farmer now.

Fantastic thread Evol. Although most of it is way beyond my understanding at the moment. Subbed in and wanting to learn :)

Go to starbucks or joe muggs. They will give you all the coffee grounds you could ever want. I pick mine up at both places for free.

Thanks for the advice but I dont have a starbucks near my house. I found a local convenience store that serves a lot of coffee so I can get a big bag full every friday. I guess thats what ill be doing.

I also got several bags of leaves from a neighbor so im all set for my worms and my outdoor compost pile.

Hey Evol,

Is there any problem using alfalfa meal in the soil for nitrogen? I got a bagful of pellets, and was wondering if I could use it as an amendment. I was advised about a tea to use (thanks A4), but I was wondering about a soil recipe addative.
