New Grower First go with auto's; 2 x Super Skunk

sub'd

really nice looking plants m8, I grew one of these last year and she was such a retro smoke - awesome.

Hi there! Hope everyone is well!

I know it's only been what three days since last pictures but what the hey?

It's day 50 and I'm in awe with these auto's. How much you reckon there is still to go? It's a matter of taste as well, but I think min 3 weeks.
I anyway plan on harvesting the one in the front earlier which actually is growing buds quite nice and rich ;) It has less budsites and I'd think that's a factor.
Earlier LST this one.

Temp's during sleep (which is daytime) are around 13 - 17c / 55 - 62f. Lights on it gets till 27c / 80f, rarely though. RH night; 60%, day; 30%.

The one in the back, I lst'ed I guess a little late. But this one will stay nevertheless a little bit longer in the grow room :)

G'day y'all!

These were taken yesterday (day 53). Sorry about the quality of pictures, haven't got me better camera fixed as of yet...
Sheena is having purpling stems inside the plant mainly. This started like a week and a half ago approx.

Suzy is looking better but also has a few more leaves showing yellowing (started from the oldest ones). During past few days they got quite fast yellowish.
And these brown spots on one leaf...

This is her too

I do not own a Ph-meter but am using a ph test kit (those with a small tube and you add few drops of that liquid reagent anyhoo...)
and with apple cider vinegar I'm adjusting it to 6-6.5. Plagron lightmix soil has i think the range 5.9-7. The first 6 weeks didn't have any signs that my ph would've been off or anything else
for that matter. I can only think of the following issues;
(taking into consideration what was working before and everything else I've (or have not) done/fed to them)
Lack of nitrogen/magnesium/sulfur/manganese.
also the tips of some of the smaller leaves suggest a nute burn. I must admit I wasn't maybe careful enough with portioning the bloom each time.
So I'm thinking actually if I should just flush them both properly and feed the remaining time with only ph'ed water. I did spray lightly today on Sheena's leaves
water spiced up with magnesium sulfate.

Aaaah the uncertainty is a bummer.

Get yourself a cheap PH pen m8 Digital PH Meter Tester Water LCD Monitor Pen Aquarium | eBay - much better than the test kits. I suspect your problem is PH, but you need to check your run off and adjust accordingly... for example if the water going in is 6.5 and the run off is 5.5 then you should raise the PH of the water going in to 7.3-7.5; so actually PH'ing your water down with vinegar might be making it worse.

The pictures look very similar to my issue (red stems, looked like nute burn) which was PH.

In terms of how long to go, I would say 4-5 weeks at least; but they are looking awesome.

Hi mjdregba!

Truth is I have not checked the run off ph. I'm afraid I got to be a little too comfortable once the girls really took off and things seemed to be so stable and their growth very vigorous.
:face:
Will do that from now on.
I'll give it a go for next couple feeds without dropping the ph, the tab water here is around 7-7.5, according to this test kit I have anyway. And I always let it sit 24 hrs before using.
Buying a proper ph-meter is on my list of things to get :)

Thanks for your reply!

day 57

Hiya folks!!

Day 57. I gave them gals a decent dose of just ph'ed water last two feedings and
in my eyes the yellowing hasn't spread alarmingly. It's the oldest leaves that have gone yellow completely in the past 2 weeks. Maybe normal...? And I'm trying to refrain myself from giving any nutes as chances are I could be only making things worse.
day57_suzytop.JPGday57_suzy.JPG

The run off ph was around 6.2-6.7. Light green. (I'm looking at a color scale  )
So I needed to lower my water ph down to approx 5-5.5 . Orangy.
Damn it's getting cold nowadays in the closet. Today down to 11c/51fh when lights were off.
Younger stems not getting purple but some of them older leaves have their veins purpling. Something I should be concerned about?!

Thanks

mike

Grats on solving the PH problem m8 - really suprised to see high soil PH, normally salts build up and causes the PH to drop when drying out. PHing your water lower is exactly the right thing to do - over time it will adjust the soil down - so check the run off once a week and adjust.

On the cold front, what I do is run autoflowers 24/0 light schedule in the winter - then no need to worry about night time heat. Originally I was starting to put in tube heaters for night time, but I found that the watts required to heat the grow area to an appropriate temperature outwayed the watts in lights, so went for the cheapest option. I havent noticed any dip in potency or quality by doing this - although I do end up running more lights in the winter, so this may balance out the no dark period.

Yo mjdregba!

Thanks and thanks for your reply!

Really appreciate your input :smokebuds:

Will be monitoring the ph on a weekly basis. Yesterday I watered the gals with 1ml of bloom mixed in. Gradually trying to pump up the volume again.
My thinking is, that as long as they still gonna be in the grow room from another 3 - 5 weeks. I could as well keep feeding them, but with very little amounts.
And the last 1 week is for flushing. I've read that with organic nutes the need for flushing ain't quite the same as with chemicals...well, I guess it's one of those
"each to their own" -kind of things

I'm also glad you understood what i was trying to say in my previous post as I think my phrasing wasn't the best. I meant to say
that I tried first feeding the girls with ph'ed water (dropped it down like I used to, so in the range of 6-6.5) and the run off then was above 7 (very blue).
Then, I watered again with a significantly large amount of water (you could say I flushed them both already once with this experiment)
and dropped the ph down to the 5ish range (orangy) and then got the desired ph for the run off.
But cool you get what I was trying to say :) As English isn't my native language, I tend to flounder with it from time to time.

I was thinking of changing the light schedule to 20/4 or even up to 24/0 like you're having. Checking the next few days how cold the weather gets, as where I'm at,
the temperatures jump up and down. But I think switching to 24/0 feels like the thing to do.

My logic says also that at this point there shouldn't be any issues with changing to 24/0...?

Have a grrrrrreat day people!
:peace:
