New Grower First grow! A journey of learning and hope

Hey,
Glad to hear the transplanting went well.
pH, that is a tough one, until you are satisfied that your readings are accurate, there is always that uneasy feeling. I am just to new at this stuff to "know" what my plants need, I need to assure myself that things like pH are what they are supposed to be so I can rule that out. Anyways I am rambling... I spent about $25.00 on calibration and storage solutions fro my pH meter and consider it money well spent. Even a cheep meter that is calibrated while you use it should give some confidence. Then when you upgrade you will also know that the new one is calibrated and stored properly.

Yep, got what I like need for storage and calibration. I noticed this morning the reading would change depending on how and where I held it. NOT good! but when I test it against the calibration solution its ok. so I'll just be very careful till I get a better one.

Came up with a fix for the ph meter that will hold me out till I get a new one. The meter has a pocket clip. I stuck a Popsicle stick thru the clip to use like a right angle handle! no more pressure on the meter.

Nice one, necessity being the mother and all that. I like the Oakton it's a nice mid to low price unit and to me seems pretty well made. I like the ATC and the calibrate button.

I'll look that one up, thank you!
If you'll buy new ph meter try bluelab. Believe me from those I've used already (4+) they seems to have the best logic in calibration and best for my opinion.:Sharing One: "My 2 cents"

I thought so to until the second one I got also got troubles in calibrating.
On the other hand I have a cheap one that doens,t have troubles!
I find this strange and it doens,t make me happy!

Another option for a reasonably priced pH meter is the milwaukee pH56. I've used mine for two grows and I've been happy with it so far. It offers 2 point automatic calibration and ATC. For my last grow I calibrated it in the beginning and when I checked it with a pH7.0 buffer solution after 3 months it was still within 0.1.

Yeah the cheapo seems to have a bad joint on the board or a flaky calibration pot (potentiometer). I won't be buying any more of those yellow ones again.
