New Grower First grow! A journey of learning and hope

Got a delivery today. I bought a very nice air cooled hood, complete with the glass, and a 1000 watt Apollo ballast for $159 shipped! The hood alone was worth that! I was going to use just the hood and sell the rest, but I'm going to put it to use at least for this grow. I didn't get to building the room yeat as I've been trying to get my truck started for the last three days. Just finally got someone to take me to town for parts today. At least it got up to 35 so working outside wasn't terrible. Now if I only had my seeds........... "Incredible Sulk"

Snappy looking outfit. That will make a nice indoor sun for your garden.
Hope you got your truck going, nothing worse that car troubles sometimes, especially when you rely on them so!

Well, seeds aren't here yet. Got more things on the way, so almost done with buying my setup needs. Waiting on another air pump, some 10" net pots, PH meter and calibrating solution, PH up and down. Going out today to get some 5 gallon buckets and some flat white paint. Hopefully I'll have the room done in the next couple days. The nasty ice storm we had here put quite a damper on things, couldn't leave the house for 5 days! So when I finally make a little progress, I'll update and post pics. Till then, happy growing everyone!

Patience is a virtue pop22 ;-). But looks like its all coming together nicely. I'm pulling up a chair !

Welcome Pop 22, from another 'older' new grower!
I am also a Chronic Pain sufferer as you are, Cannabis helps my pain more than mega high Opiates/oids that I have been on.

Like you, I checked out several other Canna forums before I found AFN. As I am sure you know, it is more like a family here.

Looking forward to following with you on your journey my friend.

Peace!

While I'm impatiently waiting for my seeds to arrive, I decided maybe sharing a list of what I'm using to setup a grow room for the first time. Maybe it will help other new growers who want to try this system.
I'm doing DWC so startup is a bit expensive ( yes, I could have saved money by not buying the 1000 watt Apollo ballast and hood, the package sold for what the air cooled hood was worth ).
In fact I spent way more than i thought i would, all the little stuff you need to do it right adds up! But I am hoping to come out with 4oz or more ( yea I'm an optimist..lol ) and that would make the expense worth it. Second grow i know will be much less now that I have the essentials. I ended up having to cut corners a bit on the construction of the room itself, but I plan to upgrade the walls later. For now I'll sheet them with whatever I have on hand and cover them with white plastic. I got a 10'x20' white painter's tarp, 3 mill. I'll use that for now and later I'll replace the sheeting with foil faced foam insulation. I still need to get a ventilation system and Maxibloom, but the budget is broken for at least a month, unless I pick up some odd jobs in the mean time.

Here's the current break down ( you might be able to do better, but I think I found some good deal. Most of my stuff came from ebay:

Hey!
At $600.00 you're doing great!! I am well over that figure, groan... It will pay for itself, if not in output (no worries, it will) then with the satisfaction you garden and growing will bring. Seriously though if you check the recent prices of high quality it is $3-400.00 an ounce. Where I live I cannot buy it legally yet so it's really priceless!!!

My missing package of seeds showed up today, just as I was having mixed feelings about continuing with this. Read my other post, https://www.autoflower.org/f2/one-negative-destroys-thousand-positives-29067.html
you'll understand why. But I've decided its a sign, and I'm going to go ahead and grow these. It will be a symbol of commitment to exploring the medical uses of cannabis. Hopefully, in the aftermath of the tragedy of the last few days, the experience of the actual growing of these plants will in and of itself, be therapeutic . In a few days, when I have time to complete my grow room, I'll begin posting here as my grow journal.

This hobby is as therapeutic as the plant itself. The world we love in is mad, deranged, and confused. This plant is part of the healing process of our entire species, and planet as far as I am concerned. None of us can change the world by ourselves, we can only play our part and do our best to contribute to creating a world worthy of our children.

We all have our reasons for growing. Just don't forget why you are doing this, and always remember that what you are doing has never, and will never be a bad thing. Just be safe, and keep it on the down low. Some people's minds can never be changed, and sometimes it simply isn't worth the breathe. At the end of the day, they don't matter and shouldn't be of any concern to you.
