New Grower First Grow After Ten Years Out - Think Different and [Undecided]

Very nice start Indeed. On thing stands out though. Ph meter, and highly recommended but not completely needed ppm meter. Your very well versed in bio, so you know better then me but if you run into problems ph readings will be asked so we can help you if the need should ever arise. Much :karma Cloud: sub'ed.

I forgot to add that picture but you are on the money, due to my background I do have all manner of testers, just forgot the picture.

Lastly, Unless anyone has a better idea I am going for 4 Think Different plants in my tent. Should be more than enough room to bush out and grow up without crowding.

Sorry for the double post but it seems in grow journals this is the norm as a reply isn't implicitly required but I digress. All I wanted to do was update with some pics on germination. I put 4 seeds in the propagator from bunnings on a plate in between paper towel and covered with a plate. I then placed that contraption onto the heat mat and placed the lid on. I will update when they pop.

For those that are interested and as always, the pictures are included.

Lastly, again as always, discussion is highly encouraged!!

Also, Here it is Nam. I have a number of them BUT this is my favorite one to use for its accuracy and ease.

I think this is great - you are the complete opposite to me!
I know I should be doing things this way - but I'm on the
beach to often!
Will be following your thread with interest,
Otto

Thank you for the kind words Otto. I have a 5" 8' Mini Mal here that I love to go surfing on but don't nearly hit the beach as often as I would like these days sadly.

Yeah! Read about your accident - never know what to say...
I'm too old to be a surfer - and I'm not in the southern hemisphere -
did live there for a while as a teenager...night skys are something else!
it's chilly at the moment!
I'm more of a coastal anthropologist - seaside resorts - coastal paths...
That kind of beach bum - live in a really nice place...

I am 32 and my best friend is 54 and we both go surfing as much as time allows. I also play a LOT of video games. We are the people we create, arbitrary things like "too old for..." and "I couldnt possibly..." are mental blocks we put on ourself for whatever reason. You are never too old for anything my friend, simply choose to do the things you enjoy.

RE: Accident. You don't say anything, it was something that happened many years ago when I was 20 and the dynamic nature of our society dictates that these sort of things are inevitable. It changed my life and impacted me in many ways. I lost my ability to walk and talk for a long time and still suffer sever pain to the day. I lost someone very important to me that day as well but I choose not to let it get me down or impede me in any way I simply use it for inspiration to move on with my life and here I am 12 years later enjoying the shit out of it. I might miss the one I lost, I might feel pain as a result and there will be a constant reminder of it but I am lucky to be alive and I cannot waste that chance.

Plus I now appreciate a good red wine and a joint watching the sun set on my property as I do my oil painting. I have that and I'd be a fool to waste it.

Love N Peace

Today's Update

Just thought I would update a bit. In my anticipation I have been finishing the setup of the tent. All photo's are taken with a Sony Alpha A33 SLR Camera and FULL Resolution is 14.7 MegaPixel.

The seeds are cracking, or on the verge

Making My Planting Medium (SOIL)

I make my own soil using compost from my own heap and then mixing with the pictured bags. My personal raw compost includes a mix of worm casings, vege scraps and anything else organic in nature that will compost.

The ingredients are ready!!

Temperature Readings

The thing about the temps here that is concerning me is, well, the temps. This is in the afternoon with no lights on and no plants in there. The velco mesh vents down the bottom are off/open so there is circulating air. This is problematic, considering when the lights go on I will see a big jump in temp. Suggestions??

I had fans but it seems flood water or the residual humidity has gotten to them. This is the second problematic thing. Asides from naturally, I have no way of circulating or exhausting hot air (which is redundant as the ambient temps are so high around here. The tent is covered in an outside barn;

and it gets good cool air flowing through there. The thing is cool air around here is 27-35 Celsius (80-95F). As you can see from location, security and venting smells etc is not an issue at all.

Thats the update for today, thank you for your time and as usual comments and discussion is warmly invited.

Hey Miss R,

Subbed for your grow!!!

Hopefully you will get some shamazing results :) :)

Love the photos - there is a methodical mind at work here!
That tent really is quite big - it is sometimes hard to imagine things
from measurements - I've never done anything like this...
Definitely following this grow...
That is so hot! see what you mean about your temp controls!
Don't sativa strains take higher temps?
The barn has got corrugated iron on it too!
That makes for hot days and cold nights...

Could you cool the area with a water pump/refrigeration
method? Don't know raelly - running ideas up the flagpole...
outside the tent so it doesn't increase humidity - could be
expensive but with your background rigging up a system
would be possible with old fridges and scrap yard pipes maybe...
something about creating heat sinks - my physics is not very good...
So depending on where your vents are you create a cool air flow...
errrm...cool pipes around the bottom will suck warm air from the top.

Those are good size buckets - somehow I think you are going to
get this right...

And it's kinda outdoors too!

So the part of Aus that you are in is warm and humid?

I cant help it, there is that voice in my head that says if I don't post in a methodical manner then the universe will explode. I also believe that no matter how new I might be to growing these Auto plants, if I document everything in great detail the will be someone that could possibly learn from what I do.

I have thought of a few things last night. I COULD make a 'ghetto air-conditioner' using the old fridge I do have but I do not really want to risk contaminants invading my tent. I am confident in my abilities but when you start messing with gasses you can't be too careful with the ladies. Insulating all the corrugated iron to keep some of the heat at bay is also an option, its hard work BUT an option. I have a unit here that is complete air control, humidifier, de humidifier, ioniser, airconditioner etc THAT is overkill but a possibility. A 100-200 dollar store bought air conditioner BUT that will most likely introduce too much moisture in the air...

There are a few things I could do but will no doubt begin to introduce problems like humidity and dreaded mould.

*sigh*

This is why I love this 'game' so many puzzles!!

EDIT: Otto, your post grew!! Hopefully these babies do the same regardless of temps.

I have been investigating as we speak some sort of cooling/natural fan solution using the 'wonderful'science of thermal dynamics, call me a hippy but I am a fan of nature/organic solutions.

Yes, It is an Outdoors tent, kinda confusing if you think about it too hard, COULD be the Bubblegum I am smoking though.

The part of Aus I am in is VERY weird. Massive floods in summer ( HUMID HUMID HUMID ) last 2 years we have had serious floods that have had my friends in the US calling me to make sure I was ok. The heat gets to 40c ( 105 F ) in the day and about 15c ( 59 f ) during the night. That is of course if mother nature could be bothered. During our end of winter almost spring we saw some pretty warm temps.

here is some statistical data for a nearby area, not exact, security and all, but close enough that it provides an insight to what I fight.

Climate Statistics

Daily Rainfall | Interactive Chart

Daily Max temperatures | Interactive Data

As you can see, FUN FUN FUN!!
