New Grower First Grow After Ten Years Out - Think Different and [Undecided]

It has been a while since I have updated this thread because, well, I have had nothing to update.

Initially, as per the thread, I had germinated and put in soil 4 think different seeds.

They died sadly. My problem was turbochargers. More specifically the turbocharger and engine on my GTR was finally 'run in' after some upgrades and I spent the day cruising and boosting around my town COMPLETELY forgetting the seeds in the pots waiting to pop the soil. As my temps were sorta high and they were germ'd seeds waiting to break the soil, keeping it damp was critical AND I foolishly left the light on (I was logging the temp changes and heat patterns in the tent as I opened bents. I KNOW you dont need light until they 'pop' the soil...makes it worse) I came back after my day to find the soil bone dry and inevitably, seeds dead.

I took the seeds out, cried a little figuratively, and planted 2 of the remaining three TD's, a Bubblegummer and a Bubba Kush in the waiting and NOW EMPTY pots.

I also straight potted the seeds, no germinating.

I turned the light on and off at times to maintain heat when it got cold at night and left them off in the day. Within about a 5 days they popped the soil. Surprisingly the Bubblegummer has been the quickest growing and biggest looking one.

A week after that we are where we are at now. 4 tiny seedling HOPING to become plants of joy. It wasnt the forest of TD's I had hoped or planned for but it is 4 healthy looking seedlings ready to grow into monsters.

I hope.

The only trouble I now face is that the two TD's are Auto's and the Bubblegummer and Bubba Kush are Photo plants. Hopefully a photo light cycle doesnt mess with the TD's. Anyone with experience, please chime in. Id be running a fairly standard 18/6 Veg and 12/12 Flower.

18/6 was decided for temperature control reasons as it has been getting to 40's (100F+) here recently.

I will FINALLY be back with updates weekly and lots of pics as I FINALLY have something to show :)

On To The Pictures!!

Sorry about your loss, Miss. You ever get some new fans? I'd really consider investing in some extraction fans for those temperatures; else you may find yourself in this situation again. All it takes is one day of heat to wreck a plant something fierce (you've just seen that with your seedlings.)

Also, don't be bashful about posting pictures even if there's "not much to show." There's no embarrassment needed or need to be bashful; and sometimes posting our blunders or mundane pictures gives chance to some very insightful eyes possibly catching something you may have missed.

That being said; if you get those Think Different's growing out; you're going to be happy! I have one flowering in my grow space and it's a MONSTER of a plant; should be one epic yield off that one plant.

As to your question; this was just debated in a few others threads. Your 18/6 light schedule will be just fine for your autos and photos in veg. 12/12 will definitely work for flowering your auto, but this is where the mixed reviews kind of comes in. Some have flowered 12/12 and have not very good results (myself included, although to be fair I just tried it once and there are a TON of variables that could have affected my outcome.) Others (like bob, one of the AFN mods,) have grown autos on 12/12 from start to finish and he's reported VERY healthy girls and buds. So in my opinion, the short answer is "yes they will flower" and "mileage may vary." If that's what you're working with, that's what you're working with. Just know that the 12/12 results may be a bit intermittent with autos.

I've got to run to work (well, driving may be faster,) but I'll try to find some of those links for you so you can read up on it and make an informed decision for yourself.

Hope that helps a bit and hope this finds you well! :karma Cloud:

I havent got the fans yet, I have to drive a 6 hour round trip to my nearest supplier. I don't trust getting shit like that freighted to me, I'd rather buy it cash and transport it that way any damage is my fault. Also these days A N Y T H I N G to ensure security of your grow is essential. Also ANY excuse to drive the GTR is very much welcomed. I do have a simple blade fan you use in the heat, reduced the voltage and now have a low breeze in the tent. Combined with the port and vent openings on the tent at the right times I have been able to keep a 28C (82F) with maximum peak at 34C (93F) which is rare. I am pretty happy with that. That temp is taken from the dirt surface too, not ambient in the tent. I eventually will get ducts, fans, filters and all the gear that I lost in the flood again BUT for now I am not stressed.

I am ACTUALLY interested in whether I can grow decent MJ with just basic stuff. It may also help others who cant afford everything see what they can produce with minimal gear. That being said, 'minimal' gear is still;

- tent/grow space
- proper soil/Grow Medium
- vegetative food
- flowering food
- light/ballast/globe any combination depending on CFL/LED/HPS/MH
- pH Meters
- Hydro gear like pumps/resevoirs/constant water changes
- big ass power bill

Yeah....not so minimal but you never know, it might be helpful or motivational to someone and I am sticking with it :P Plus I am bound to hit a lot of problems and my solutions may help others.

Thanks for answering the question, I appreciate the time taken. You raise all valid points. Essentially at the end of the day it is a redundant choice I HAVE to follow a photo light schedule as I have two photo plants in there I guess the answer really determines whether I would scrap the two TD's or not but even if I get a half ounce out of it, some weed is better than none I say!!

I have been planning my next grow already an I have one TD seed left and was planning on doing another soil grow with the single TD and seeing if I can scrog a monster in my 2x2x2 meter tent. All my other seeds (about 12) are varied in varieties but are all photo's and I am itching to put an Auto TD to the MAX of its potential. So a single plant monster with all my resources and abilities is next.

I too hope you are well and Shall speak later.

Hey!
Great to see you back! Sorry about your loss. I have a Bubba Kush going too, I plan to flower her separately. My goal is to build a space to accommodate a veg/auto tent, a small flowering tent, mother space, and clone closet. At least for now, maybe I'll just stick to autos!!! My reading has shown that 12/12 will most likely lead to smaller yields, but potency and things are arguably not much affected. Experience, I have none with this!
Oh and I love photos, taking them and looking at them!! So please keep them coming!!

Here's to your new batch :karma Cloud:

Hey wwwillie,
Bubba Kush is one of my favorites. ANYTHING bubblegum or Kush is my favorite to be frank. You have great taste!!

I have some lofty goals myself. The outdoor shed in my OP is only a 1/4 of the size is actually is and I would love to enclose it all, install a air conditioner, purifier, de/humidifier and create a ridiculous grow, curing, cloning shed!! I am aiming for that and hopefully will finish it within 12 months. It gives me an excuse to work from home AND a legitimate excuse for the gear and power use as well but that is ridiculous money to spend and my car has just got the treatment so I must wait and let the bank account recover first.

I will be taking MUCH better photo's soon as I have ordered a few new lenses and hopefully they have the camera body I want as well.
