New Grower First Grow(Balcony/Window). Auto Diesel Berry grow journal.

Anyway i just checked the ph level of my tapwater and the average of it is 8.1 and the ph of my compost is 5.5-6. Can i still use tapwater or should i use distilled bottled water or rainwater ? I don't have enough to buy a ph meter and i definitely would not want my plant to die. Maybe i should boil the tapwater ?
tapwater is fine imo for the most part. I just wouldn't use tapwater if you have a microherd in your soil. It will kill those but most likely not your plant

There are tiny white bugs in my soil and i did some research and i think they might be Springtails.
I always see bugs around my plants I generally don't worry about them. Watch out for slugs tho, they can do some real damage

I also have a question, when i use my finger to check the moisture of the soil which part of the soil do i stick my finger into? Close to the edge ? Or like around in the middle near the plant ?
Best way is to gauge the weight of the pot. Or just watch your plants, they will tell you when they need water.

Hey guys, some help here. It's 5am here now and the temperature is 81F and the humidity is 89% but usually in the morning till afternoon it ranges from 81F to 88F and the humidity decreases till 59-66%. Meaning it will usually be high humidity at night till morning(before sunrise) and in the morning to afternoon the temperature will be higher but less humidity. Any help with this ? Like should i give lesser water or more water ? My plant is like 4 days old. Some help please, i'm getting really worried !!
I would say no. You can't fret over the temps or humidity levels outside b/c they are out of your control. High temps will cause your soil to dry out a little faster is all, but that really can be a good thing. Always error on the side of underwatering than overwatering. Overwatering autos can be easy to do in my experience (even when you know not to).

I see you have a sprout. Looking good. :check: Your soil looks plenty moist to me from the pic. If you have a big pot \ little plant, be very careful about overwatering. I would just continue to mist for the first cpl weeks :2cents:

and like HappyHouse said, just relax. Its your first grow. Your bound to make a few mistakes. These plants can take a ton of abuse (most strains anyway). Just keep it alive and it will produce in the end.

Thanks alot for answering my questions. I was wondering who would answer them all. Anyway It's been 6 days since i watered and the pot is still feeling heavy. And i think my plant is stretched and growing kinda slow. I will definitely be posting pictures soon too !! Anyway the soil i'm using is 'jab multi purpose compost with john innes' and it has water retention, do you think that is why my pot still feels heavy ? When i stick my finger into the soil it kinda feels moist and dry. I heard there is a method where you let it get really dry and then you water till there is run off at the bottom and then you let it get dry again(this method makes the root searches for water downwards?). So i'm thinking if i'm misting the top would it be enough ?

hmm.. idk. Water-retention soil sounds like a bad idea to me. I always have issues getting my soil to dry out quick enough. I've stunted several plants from overwatering thus far. A fast wet/dry cycle is what youre after.

This round, I just misted my soil roughly once a day for the first 3 weeks using smaller pots and had better results. But then I f'd up the transplant. I was very surprised by how wet the bottom part of the soil was.

You may think about investing in a moisture meter if you are having trouble telling how wet/dry the soil is. But sticking things in the soil can be risky to the roots be it a meter or your finger

all my outdoor plants stretched. Just means they aren't getting optimum light levels which is understandable when growing on a windowsill/balcony. Nothing to really worry about there, imo. You just might not get an optimum yield.

Bottom line: you want those pots to dry out before watering no matter how long it takes. I wouldn't mist, water or anything until its dry and light again. You may even need to transplant if it takes longer than a week and a half to dry out. I'm no expert however, btw

Alright thanks alot for those advices, i will wait till it's dry for the next watering. Cheers bro

Yeah i have planted them into moist soil and the weight is still feeling pretty much the same till now, it's like 7-8 days already but i have been misting the top layer of soil almost everyday.

hopefully you can get another pic up soon.. that would help :pop:

Probably tomorrow a picture would be up. I think i will water till run off tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

New setup and i'm so excited :)

Okay guys so i have moved indoor and i am growing in my closet. I am using 2 CFL lights. One is 6500 and another is 2700 (mixed) and they are both 60 watts(True watts). Ventilation wise i am only using an oscillating fan and i'm leaving the closet open for air exchange. I also have some mylar on the side of the walls, top and bottom but not at the end because i don't have enough but atleast the walls are painted white so it's okay. The lights are around 2-3 inches away from my plant but i'm worried it might be too hot. I have a timer and i set it on 18/6 (Shutting down at 11am and powering up at 5pm). Please give your opinions and advices, i know you guys will ask me to punch some holes and have some intake and exhaust fans/carbon filter but sadly i can't punch holes into my closet or anything so this is my best setup. I'm moving from window/balcony grow to indoor and it's my first so please give positive thoughts. Check out the pictures !
