New Grower First Grow Feminized Blue Mystic AF

Remember co2 sinks so you want to disperse it above your grow, best to turn circulation off if you want effective co2.

Everything looks very good, I started with a few BM also.

Thanks for the input. That should be easy enough for me to do, since my input actually sweeps up top...in terms of bringing in the CO2. I will have to have my small intake fan running to bring in the CO2. And of course this is just a perpetual production of CO2 with no way to increase, slow or stop it....So it will be feeding the intakes with full ventilation when the HPS is on. In the end, I was planning to produce the ethanol anyway. So if I get even a slight benefit...it will be worth the effort.

Why not just make wine :) wine and weed :)
Haha yeah I second that. Just not sure what I would do with 40 gallons of wine...

Another update:

Well, I completed my plumbing for the CO2. I had originally thought about coming up from the top and down. But I decided to pull the tube through the bottom intake and to a hub on the floor. The hub was a 5 dollar purchase at homedepot and each port is valved. That is nice because I can turn off the tubes that I am not using -- there is a total of 6 ports on this hub. I have run the black tube up to each plant as you can see in the pictures. The hope is the heaver CO2 will cascade down across the plants. So basically, the airlock is connected to the fermentors and the CO2 bubbles out through the top tube, through the vent and into the grow room (is run inside the dryer duct). The tube is then connected to the distribution hub...each plant gets its own CO2 stem-up. I will add some pictures tomorrow of the fermentors in place....

Here are some photos...

I would do it slightly differently and keep the fermentation going by adding the sugar gradually. I also add a dash of plant food to the mixture, the yeast likes the nitrogen.

For a newbie, looks like you are doing pretty well. I am new to this myself. I've actually had wonderful results so far with what I'm working with. Good luck!

I would probably run it this way if I didn't have special plans for the ethanol.

I have a bunch of similar carboy's that I can swap out as soon as the fermentation slows. Since I plan to reclaim the the alcohol, it is important to run it this way. Otherwise, the yeast will shift into production of some nasties that would be undisrable to say the least-- Yeast will become stressed just like our plants do. I have used a variety of nutrients that contain nitrogen in various diffenet forms. It is surprising how well tomato paste works. The amino acids break down (among other micro-nutrients) and provide the yeast what they need. It is also a very benign ingredient that does not detract from the purity of the ethanol. I have actually throttled back on the nutrients to slow down the fermentation.

I should be getting 3 gallons of 190proof alcohol. To be used as a solvent -or- another use would be 7 gallons of top shelf 80proof Vodka...

Haha, roger that! Not bio diesel-but, any engine that has been converted to run on alcohol will run great on 95%.

Below are pictures I am bringing over from my Trichome thread. I probably should have just posted my trichome questions here...But I got some much needed help...and I am a ton more confident about when to harvest.

Well, it has been about 8.5 weeks since I started germinating. I just harvested one of my plants, and I plan to keep a close eye on the last two girls. They have been slower...and I have a good idea why. So let me write down some of the bad first...and some of the changes I plan to make for my next grow.:o

1) I was heavy handed with my veg nutes. This was evident on all the plants but especially the plant that I just harvested. I had some burnt tips and some splotches on fan leaves that indicated I over-did the nutes. I was able to flush the plants and back off...but I believe I did some damage to them. I have learned a lot about letting the plant tell you what she needs.
----------->solution: Start off with much less nutes (40% reduction of what I was using)...and watch the plant for signs.

2) I switched to Flower nutes too soon. It is likely I stunted their growth.
----------->solution: wait until vertical height stops--put a yard stick in the room and actually measure the plants to know when. Aim for week 7ish---but, let the plant tell you.

3) Veg with 6500K bulbs. I did my entire grow under 2700k. This may have provided less veg...reducing my yield.
----------->solution: I have already built a shelf with 6500k builbs. The plants will stay on this shelf for few/several weeks. They will be moved under my HPS at the middle to end of preflowering.

4) Pots. I think my pots were ok...but just ok. I used the typical 2gallon garden pots that you buy at the box store. This may have also contributed to smaller plants.
------------->Solution: I have ordered fabric 3 gallon pots ---for some 02 root pruning. These pots are taller than most 3 gallon fabric pots...they fit well in my space.

5) Smell. Now I do have my exhaust venting above my roof. That is all well and good...but when I open to door to tend the garden...the room/part of the house will have an intense odor for about 1hour. I love tending the garden...I have that door open often.
------------->Solution: I am going to consider an Ona bucket.

6) Watering. I was generally good with watering. I was able to gauge when they needed water well enough by lifting the pots. However, I did let one plant wilt moderatly due to not enough watering.
-------------->Soultion: This is just gonna take time. I will get better with more experience.

7) CO2. This worked fine. In fact, two fermentations have been enough. The room is cool enough so the large amount of sugar ferments out in about 11days-14-days.
--------------->Soultion. Once I refine some of these other problems...I will consider increasing the ferment speed to get 3 full cycles per grow.

The good news. Despite my failures these plants did great. I am thrilled that I was able to have good success my first grow. Although I have a photo plant (Northern Lights) I need to finish out, I can't imagine doing anything but autoflowers after. I plan to get more seeds in the next few days. I am so convinced that Autos are right for me, I plan to buy some bulk seeds.
