Grow Mediums First Stab @ DWC

Hey all!! quick update. Not sure if I stressed the plant in dwc out, but there has been NO growth what so ever!!?? My rez temp checks out @ 68*F lights on 66*F lights off, tent temp is 86*F at the light sitting 27 inches above, 79*F at the hydroton/cytelodon. 80% humidity at first when I put in my smart pots and watered them the first day before I dropped seeds in them, and now 63% humidity for the past 2 days. The only thing that might have stressed it was the night temp dropped to 68*F at lights out(temp outside dropped 10*F that night). PH in the bucket remains stable at 5.8, and I dont have extraction fan on at the time because those are my temps with one door of the tent cracked open(circulating fan is on) and I have 1 port on the floor open. Not sure what is going on??? Are my temps fine??? No roots out the net pot, and no growth on the plant!!?? I sorted my water out when I started the grow, with filling it 1 inch over the Net pot, put a layer of hydroton down so where it barely seeps to the top, placed the rockwool cube on top, and surrounded it with hydroton to cover all holes in the net pot. I am happy that the rez temps are stable, ppm is 120, and the water level hasn't gone down much at all. I pulled a water sample out the bucket, and checked it with the pen, and top fed the plant with it. Any comments or questions would be greatly appreciated!!! Will post pics in the next day or two.:help:

Hmm.. I was thinking it might not be getting water, but sounds like you thought of that. Maybe run the pH @ 5.5 water temp is good, idk maybe that lights out temp was a little low, but not by much. It shouldn't affected it too bad. My lights out temp is usually around 68-70. Does the plant look pale green? Also what's your starting PPM of your water? My well is 8 PPM, I bring that up to 125-150 with calmag and also add 1/4 nutes, so my seedling PPM is around 350ish

starting ppm is 50, bumped it up to 230 with a fresh rez change tonight. ph is holding strong, but starting ph is in the low 7's out of the tap, I have to use a shyt ton of ph down. The plant is lime green and looks good, but no growth. Tonight I added about a 1/4 gallon more water to the rez while mixing, and we will see if the level was a bit low. The next day or two will tell if there is enough. Thanks Jackal for the quick response!! All worked up like a mother hen over this tiny little plant!!! By the time I added cal/mag(6ml) Sensi A&B(6ml) a touch of silica(3ml), superthrive(3ml) and roots excellerator(3ml), ppm came to 230. We will wait and see. By the way, that hydroton makes an awful mess in the rez. I washed that stuff real good too!! Thanks again!!

Hey bro, hows it going? Maybe get a few pics up of the dwc bucket and baby for reference? The only thing I can think of (being new to dwc as well) is that the water level could actually be too high? I think it's most likely down to preference but some people believe if you drop the water level the roots will go searching for food, I took a couple Litres out (total res 13L) to be safe but my plant is only 2 days old - keeping the water level high on the contrary could encourage feeder roots which accelerate growth, again down to personal experience or preference.. Keep us updated I'm sure it will work out! :peace:

Thanks pal, wanting the feeder roots!!! If it doesn't work out this run, I'll try again!! I want to make dwc work!!! I am in awe what these folks are pulling out of a bucket grow. There is a learning curve to it as every ones grow is different. I can do this, and if not, I can always run dirt and do some more reading and research......but doing it is learning too!!!

I'm sure you'll make it work buddy, I'm in the same boat right now..How can you not give it a go after seeing the results? :D: Too many awesome DWC growers on this forum and plenty of info to follow. I finished my first soil grow and thought f**k it I'm gonna give hydro a try! But like you say, it definitely is a learning curve - one I hope we can both handle :smokebuds: :peace:

Sounds like you have added to much stuff for a baby bro. They dont need anything special for the 1st 2/3 weeks ,just basic grow & full root accelerator... defo no silica until week 3 (not needed) ,no cal/mg yet unless using RO >?

.if you washed the hydrotron well & theres bits in the res its probably a light leak or something making the nutes go funny , or maybe the way you mixed them ?. Always add the hottest shit 1st ... like cal/mg ,...let it mix ... then silica ...let it mix & so on .If you dont do this they can separate & make your res look shity !.

the stall could be the cube to damp & the water level a bit high as well maybe ?... plus like Jackal said PH 5.5-5.6 is best for baby's :smokebuds:

good luck man .. :smokebuds:
