20140428_201921.jpgHello everyone, first time grower here. I'm going to be posting my grow log, asking lots of questions, and hopefully getting some great advice from everyone. I'm running a 5x5 tent, 1000w hps in a raptor hood with a dimmable ballast. I mixed my soil to the recipe stickied in this thread. 2 questions maybe someone can help with, first the grow store sold me a 16 inch hydrofarm wall mount fan. Any advice on how to hang it in my tent? Second I'm in the middle of town and my windows all face major foot traffic areas. Any advice on camouflage my exhaust so it's not obvious to people walking by? They are the large 8 foot tall windows. Thanks! 20140428_201909.jpg 20140428_201758.jpg 20140428_201821.jpg

Hi Osgood, I have just started my first grow also. Auto Ak and blueberry x sweet tooth. Its day 7 from popping for me and I think its going good, they look happy anyway! My set up is much smaller, 1 m x 1 m x 2 m. I played about with my fan as noise was an issue and I ended up hanging it directly from the cross bars in the roof of tent on bungies. This took away all the vibration. I bought a silencer as well and it cut the air flow noise by 50% at least!:jaw: One idea for your fan, when it comes to DIY I am full of the. If you leave the window slightly open, at the top if possible and then put up a wooden slat blind that covers your entire window this should disguise the appearance. You could even set a fitted MDF board across the top section where the outflow is going and cut a hole which is the perfect fit for your ducting behind the blind. The slats should not obstruct your airflow and can be raise to allow light in the lower half of your window if needed. I was shocked at how noisy the airflow was on its own, sounded like a dryer was on and my fan is only 5" so I am guessing yours sound more like an airoplane! It may not matter given your situation but if it does the silencer helps lots with that. Happy growing mate, what stains have you gone for. Also how did you start a thread, I cant work it out and I am not even smoked!! Ha ha

Any other advice would be great to, forgot to mention I'm running my light at 50% and it's hard to see but sprouts are about an inch.

hello os

from newbie to newbie the question is are you a d i y man if the answer is yes i would probably start digging my self a big hole and i mean rip them floor boards up and get that bunker dug because youre going to need somewhere to hide if youre pumping the fumes onto the highstreet :crying: as for the fan i would say its going to have to be home made something that you could easily fix an easyroller system to have you considered that ? as for the exhaust system id probably invest in at least 10m of ducting and get that thing to the highest possible point you can and maybe look into some silencer attachements that will suit your needs but i really wouldnt suggest you start a showroom in the middle of town relocate your growroom if you can i definately wouldnt have a setup that passer bys can see smell or hear i hope it makes sense buddy obviously theres a lot more experienced users than me that will bring you their thoughts too all im saying is dont shoot yourself in the foot

Thanks for the input. I'm stuck in a lease for another 9 months unfortunetly, I wasn't planning to grow but my caregiver flaked on me and finding a new one that's decent has been a hassle. I'll upload more pictures tonight but out of 10 pots, 8 are doing well and 2 haven't popped and are getting tossed. I bought lumber for a ScroG and will be building it this weekend. Someone advised me to hollow out an AC and vent through that so it doesn't look obvious. I'm not worried about noise and once smell becomes an issue I'll dump some money into filters and whatever else I need. Anyone have better suggestions to hide outgoing duct work from passerbys?

Updating with some pictures, these are about 2 weeks. The first picture is the AC I gutted for stealt ventilation, I'm attaching plywood to the front with 2 6 inch flanges, I'll post pictures of that later.

I went away for 2 days and temperature was over 90 degrees, I think that's why I had some leaf curling does that sound right? Anyone have advice on watering? I'm so worried about over/under watering. Thanks!

Updating with pics of my completed stealth ventilation setup.

It seems like heat problem if I recognize well. 1000W HPS is so powerfull for seedlings. Keep distance. How far is the light? Maybe use a cooltube.
I usually watering the seedlings daily , but just a little plaine water to keep it wet. After The first 7-10 days, start to raise the quantity. When the plants are bigger I ret them a bit, and after it I just watering them every 3 days in veg.
After that, when the plants is bigger, you will see how thirsty your plants. (example: from the pot weight)
Thios method is always work for me. I hope dont tell you any sily thing. You can check it in my last log. (I grow TD's too)
Nice setup, GL with your girls. :peace:

I'm running a dimmable ballast and was using it at 50%, that problem happened when I got froggy and tried to run it higher. Now that I'm venting the right way through the hollowed out A/C my temperatures are much better even at full power. Thanks for the watering tip Botlowsky!

Tomorrow will be 28 days I think from germination, I'm feeding them GH basic nutrients using the aggressive veg formula on the bottle at full strength. They seem quite happy, I'm amazed to see some flowering in under a month
