Fungus gnats!!!

I used sand on top of pots. An inch or so. Within a week they were gone.

Put cinnamon on top of each 5 days ago. Put potato slices on the wettest, and only found one larvae. They are dark winged fungus gnats. Will drench with neem seed tea, in 2 days. Fly paper works awesome for adults. Will post pictures. Easily 300 in 2 days.

My biggest concern with barrier methods is, that I like to re-use media.

Dunks or course sand top dress and your weed wont taste like whatever your weed is gonna taste like.... Cinnamon mashed potatoes?

I have read for a week, and seen all kinds of solutions. Have been waiting for BTI, which I just found out is what dunks are, but have to order this time of year.

Cinnamon was supposed kill fungus, and starve larvae, and potato slices were supposed to attract larvae. Trying neem tea and crab shell powder.

It was meant to be used lightly, to penetrate top layers, and would turn to water.

I thought dunks were toxic chemicals, did not know, I just paid more for BTI. I top water, so top dressing will get drenched.

Update -

Used 1 part H2O2, to 4 parts water spray, to drench top layers to start.

Let dry out. Large number of adults on surface.

Applied crushed (to powder) crabshells, and neem tea, last night, and not one adult on medium.

If anything changes, will update.

Alex I have confidence in the h2o2, I had to treat mine twice just to be sure then I used to spray lots of neems oil on plant and soil in hopes of keeping the adults at bay not sure if it helped but it helped me

I used H2O2 first, then day later put potato slices on surface, which should draw larvae. Found one out of 9 seedlings. Used on all, and let dry out, big time, but adults were all over surface till, the crab shells, and neem tea. Used neem cake to make tea, which is more eco-friendly (it is the by-product of neem oil extraction). Supposedly the adults do not eat anything, but are attracted to yellow traps, and my regular flypaper is covered. Adults live for 7 days, just to reproduce.

Will update if there are changes!!!
