that grand then, just alot of people assume it has to go at the very end of the chain which can make it a little louder with the sound of the motor aswell as the airflow itself. ive never muffled but i saw some designs someone posted it looked like a wooden z bend kinda thing inside a box to absorb the sound, others seal up their fans in expanding foam inside a box, i tried myself badly and it wasnt worth it for me but probably just me screwing it up. id say youd get some better answers in general chat maybe. less vague and more helpfull.
acoustic ducting helps a little too, also helps keep the heat inside from bleeding back out into your attic etc raising ambient temps.
