Hey Guys,

I'm trying desperately to get my first ever grow under way and i have been trying to germinate 2 x dutch passion star ryder seeds for over 8 days now and nothing has happened...

I put them in water overnight til they sank, then put them in between nice moist paper towel in an airtight container and on top of my satellite box. I have then checked them every 12 hours or so for 8 and a half days now and nothing has happened.

At close inspection you can see that the shells look like they have cracked open ever so slightly but no tap root or anything has emerged.

The paper towel is not to wet or to dry, its not to hot or to cold..

I'm now confused and have no idea what to do next.

Any help/suggestions will be very very gratefully received.

If they have cracked ever so lightly, give them a couple of more days and they should start to put out the tap roots

I soaked my seeds in water for 24 hrs and then put them strait in soil pointed end first . Had 100 % germ rate this past run. Paper towels scare me I afraid my beans will dry out while I'm at work. Mine sprouted within four days in the dirt.

Completely agree. I do the same. None of the paper towel bullshit, strain in the warm damp dirt. I've had 100% on all my germs that way. This time round my TD came up in 2 days.

if it was me...since they are fem seeds...i would have put them straight in the soil......that's just IMO...:D...:smokebuds:

not sure why they wouldnt germ man i use the paper towel method and have had 100% germination success..only difference is mine arent in an airtight container and i dont soak them in a cup of water (not saying you shouldnt, I probably should to be honest) but i just always put them in a paper towel cause thats worked for me.

i just put moist paper towels in a ziploc bag, put the seeds in, i dont zip it all the way i leave it open a little and just put that bag in a shoe box in a dark cabinet. i open it maybe once a day to spray the paper towel, not the seeds.. with a spray bottle, usually less than 48 hours later they are all ready to be put in a pot.

so im not sure man maybe open the container a little and let them breath some?

Edit: have you kept them in darkness or when you check on them are they exposed to a lot of light?

I had no issues putting them in containers with paper towels they would germinate some would take a day or two some would take a week or so. Unless they're bad seeds

Hello. I suggest giving them air. Seeds still need air so I wouldn't put them in an airtight container. And as others said and this is just what I do too so it's my suggestion...but don't fool with the paper towels. Soak them for 24-36 hours and plant them. Just press them into the soil under the surface and cover them over a little. Keep them warm and moist and watch it grow. :smokeit: :D

Hey Melki,

I am also a newby 1st time grower, and I'm 2 for 2 on germs.. doing the cable box method.

I soak the seed over night, or untill it drops to the bottom of whatever cup you put it in...

I cut a 6" square out of a white t-shirt, soak it with water, ring it out and it should be the proper dampness..

Fold it in half, put the seed in, fold it 1 or 2 more times..

slide it into and open sandwich baggie

place the baggie between 2 plates, and set on top of the cable box...

both of my 1st 2 attempts were a sucess with-in 2 days...

Hope this helps.. Good luck bro!

The correct way to germinate the beans is to use 5 drops of a good root stim in 150mm of air conditioned tap water at "72F"............this is the correct temp.........most "Cheap Heated Propagators" have this feature, as long as you have "Capillary Action" of water to the seed, towel, soil, wet sock it wont matter, as long as "It's All Sterile" before use, inc your hand !! bacteria kill beans fast !!,,,,,,,,,,,then if a bean dont show, you know it's "just a Duff Bean" it happens.........a lot as we go up the genetic ladder into auto land !!.........AB.........

Ps;....its better not to "Pot Out" Auto's.....better to hatch bean in propagator and straight into damp soil at same temp, then put a clear poly cup over bean spot, till she shows....
