I have been trying to germinate two seeds over the weekend, I left them in room temperature tap water for 2 days on only one seed had showed any signs of germinating, since then I have put the seeds in a damp, cut in half sponge (its all I had) and sealed them in a container- 12 hours later still nothing.

Is there anything I can do about this, could they be too cold? This is my first grow and I really don't want to fail at the first hurdle! please share any of your germinating tips and experiences :) thanks!

When you say room temperature, best if it's warmer than that.

I put mine in a glass of water and then put that in a small box or other container (so that light can't get in) and then put that small box in my growbos, so the temps are about 25c.

Then, when the seed cracks a little bit, i transfer to damp kitchen paper, wrap the paper in clingfilm (to retain mositure), then put that in my box then stick the box in the growbox.

Normally in the glass of water from 24 to 48 hours.

Normally in clingfilm 24-36 hours until taproot is 0.5cm or more long, then stick in soil.

Thanks man! i think my room was a little too cold (probably 19-20 degrees), heres a picture of one of the seeds showing the size of the taproot- would you say i should plant it now? sorry for the poor quality, its taken from my phone photo (3).jpg

I can't zoom the photo to see the root, we've had problems viewing some pictures here recently due to a DDOS attack on the site.

I normally wait until the taproot is half a centimetre (fifth of an inch) long before planting.

IMO i would leave it for another 24 hours let the tap root get a little longer, i like to have my root on the shorter side of 1cm, im lucky enough to have my grow room in my built in cupboard so the draws next to it stay fairly warm and is perfect temps for seeds to germ bout 26*c it is, in a light sealed container placed on a window shelf would work good too if the temps are a little low for you, hope they crack matey!

thanks mate ill leave them a little longer, is it too late for the one that hasnt cracked (after 48 hrs in water and 12 hours in sponge)? Ive transferred to moist paper towel sealed and put near a radiator for a while to heat up- reckon that will be okay?

Stick the uncracked one in a glass of water until it cracks, then do the paper towel thing.
