Ive done outdoor and used the paper towel thing for germination but I'm totally new at the autos so I'm asking what is the safest way to germinate the seeds and put them in your grow medium

Basically the same way.I soak them in distilled for24 hrs or until you just see them start to split open then into paper towls.

Thats the recommendet way by Dutch Passion! I just put the into moist paper towels but better save than sorry :)
Do what namvet wrote.:goodluck:

^ ^ ^ Which is now how I do it... :) For the most part.

Got to be honest here I have my best rates strait to soil?

I agree. The last year and a half I went to direct to soil. In the majority of my grows I have a sprout in 3-4 days. There's been a couple of failures.

I live in a in the UK in a Victorian house with very high ceilings and very large sash windows.

This means a lot of the heat goes up to the top of the room and takes some while to reach further down (ie. where my seeds germinate) add to that drafty sash windows, which can result in unsatisfactory temperature fluctuations.

Further to that my old boiler bit the dust a few years back, It used to provide a great place to germinate on the counter top above it, just the right amount of ambient heat to germinate (it was like that area was designed for germination).

The new combi (on demand) boiler is half way up the wall and doesn't provide the same germination heat I need.

Germination became very erratic and I needed to find a solution to provide a more stable germination heat source.

I decided to use a heated propagator but oh what folly, it got too hot for my rootit! sponges/ jiffy 7's, the final bit of the solution was to by a thermostatic contoller with a heat probe.

I bought the Rootit! thermostatic control for my heated propagator and set i to 24C & everything was golden, no more worries about heat fluctuations & perfect germination.

In conclusion do just like Nam says, just make sure you never leave your seeds too long in water (over 24 hours) as you can drown then and they will go mushy inside & try to keep the heat stable in the 23C-26C range.

All the best and happy growing

I have only germinated 6 seeds but each time I have dug a little hole in soil and some jiffy starter mix about 3 inches deep and drop the seed. All 6 have been successful. I mist them 2 times a day. Each one has popped in 3-4 days.

i too always go with straight to soil and have very few failures, even with F1 tester beans and hard to germ beans.I have a separate seedling mix for them but soak for 20 hours or there abouts until it cracks n right to a half inch hole for the bean and right to the soil/pot yer using.imo it lessens the chance of contamination and injury to any or the tap root hair and bending of a soft bean trying to grab it.lol. that how I do it.just like organic growing ALL do it similar but ever so slightly different.:Sharing One:
