I have never grown with FFOF before but with this grow of purple mazar, diesel ryder and critical jack it's going to have to do. I grew previously with Pro-Mix BX, which I had amazing results in from seed to harvest. I know, why switch from pro mix to ff? because my shop is all out of pm for 2 months!!!!! SO, what chance am I really taking here? any tips or pointers?

Do not use it to germ seeds in. OF is a hot soil and Autos are very sensitive early on. If you don't burn up and stunt your plant you're like to turn them male due to the extra nutes in the soil. Use a good plain compost or light potting blend to start them and then transplant into the OF once they've grown up a bit.

hmm, there is just too much conflicting info some say it's safe some say it is not. I'm puzzled, but don't want to take the chance!

Some people get lucky, some are experienced enough to compensate for problems, some plants manage just fine in it, and OF is not always a consistent product. Seeds are spendy why take the chance of hurting your seeds if you don't have to.

I used 100 percent ffof with no problems. Germed straight into it.

if i was going to germ into it i would preflush the soil... thats just me tho

I think im going to 50/50 mix with the OF on the bottom using some seed starter on top, What do you guys think? I refuse to transplant autos an I'm not a big fan of the tier method.

I use ffof and have started in it straight with "good, bad and eh prolly shouldnt have done that" results. I like to cut the OF with my own compost and add a decent layer of starting substrate to the top of my pots. Even though ive had some good grows starting in it, I wouldnt recommend it, ive had far more bad or mediocre grows doing it that way.

I've been using ff ocean forest, happy frog, and light warrior for years and used it in many different combinations. I know some plants can handle it but I don't recommend germing in ocean forest, in my opinion happy frog is fine to germ in and obviously light warrior is fine too.

So if ur using ocean forest i would dig a hole about 6in wide and 6in deep and fill that with starting mix, or just add a layer of starting mix on the ocean forest, after a couple weeks they'll grow into the ocean forest and should be old enough to handle it :2cents:
