So I have been reading and reading, now I think its time to go shopping but....

I have a question, should I do my first ever grow in soil or hydro. From what i have read I think I would prefer a grow from hydro but do I need to gain the experience from a soil grow firs? what do you all think.

I have never grown in soil. I went straight to hydro flood an drain. I wanted to scrog and it seemed easier to do, monitor adjust as needed.....well just everything about it made sense. There is still a learning curve despite months and months of reading, planning and the like. I think swithing from one to the other can be.....intimidating, no that's not it. Uh....difficult. So there it is. My thoughts.Hope that helps.

Damn the back button...... I started in hydro, with no previous experience with cannabis. I like the manageability and no soil. It just seems less wasteful to me, but that may not be true at all. I wanted to scrog and a flood an drain seemed like the best way for ME to do that. Its easier to adjust things with nutrients and ph and easier to kill off your girls. It also seems more cash up front. But ill take that any day for easy of care. Hope this is some use to you.

I don't know why but I have dbl posts. Thought one got erased. Lol good luck

I'm not really sure how soil is more wasteful? I make my own compost, consisting of all the choppings from my vegetable garden, and the indoor garden- and some horse shit that the city wood otherwise be putting in a landfill (paying to haul it out to the county, and burning fuel in dump trucks, and paying to dump it) as well as some other stuff- i buy some soil as well. As opposed to watching my Buddy go through a hundred gallons of water a week on his hydro grow.

It was also impressive to see 1.5-2 degree ph swings in a 24 hour period at times...

If hydro is how you want to grow then by all means do so- but don't even think for a minute it's less wasteful as you dump gallons and gallons of water loaded with residual nutes down the drain....

Hydro can also present some challenges when it comes to running multiple strains together.

I definitely prefer soil, I think it produces a slightly richer product than the sterile homogenous environment replicated in hydro.

Hydro works great. And if its what you prefer then roll with it- there are plenty of good reasons to do so, and I absolutely love the blue dream haze that my buddy grows in an organic hydro setup- rdwc. Anyway good luck on the journey! Looking forward to seeing you do a grow in whatever medium you choose!

I'm at the same stage, shopping list is complete and I decided on a coco/perlite mix (85% coco 15% perlite) in airpots
