I'm not really sure how soil is more wasteful? I make my own compost, consisting of all the choppings from my vegetable garden, and the indoor garden- and some horse shit that the city wood otherwise be putting in a landfill (paying to haul it out to the county, and burning fuel in dump trucks, and paying to dump it) as well as some other stuff- i buy some soil as well. As opposed to watching my Buddy go through a hundred gallons of water a week on his hydro grow.
It was also impressive to see 1.5-2 degree ph swings in a 24 hour period at times...
If hydro is how you want to grow then by all means do so- but don't even think for a minute it's less wasteful as you dump gallons and gallons of water loaded with residual nutes down the drain....
Hydro can also present some challenges when it comes to running multiple strains together.
I definitely prefer soil, I think it produces a slightly richer product than the sterile homogenous environment replicated in hydro.
Hydro works great. And if its what you prefer then roll with it- there are plenty of good reasons to do so, and I absolutely love the blue dream haze that my buddy grows in an organic hydro setup- rdwc. Anyway good luck on the journey! Looking forward to seeing you do a grow in whatever medium you choose!
